Job Overview:
The position of Junior Graphic Designer / Media Designer at UNU Macau involves supporting the editorial outputs and publications of the Institute through visual design. The role is open to both local and international experts with relevant experience in visual design, and candidates may work remotely. The primary responsibilities include collaborating with the Communications team to create engaging visuals for various communications products, designing publications such as reports and policy briefs, and producing web-based visuals and video content. The position requires a strong understanding of design principles and the ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks. The successful candidate will contribute to the Institute's mission of promoting sustainable development through effective visual communication.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Collaborate with the Communications team to develop impactful visuals for promotional products, reports, and other communications. 2) Work with researchers to design assorted publications, including reports, policy briefs, and brochures. 3) Create web-based visuals such as banners and infographics, and develop dedicated websites for events. 4) Produce video content for various purposes. 5) Assist in maintaining a photo and video library for the Institute. 6) Ensure compliance with copyright and clearance requirements for multimedia materials. 7) Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors and project leads, ensuring high-quality outputs that meet deadlines and standards.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess excellent knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign. Experience in designing visual layouts for reports and presentations is essential, along with proficiency in website production and Microsoft Office applications. The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, strong attention to detail, and problem-solving skills are crucial. Knowledge of the UN systems and experience in international development organizations are advantageous. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to work effectively in a diverse, multicultural environment.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Communication Design, Graphic Design, Communication Sciences, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for effective visual communication and design.

Experience:
Candidates should have relevant experience in visual design, particularly in creating layouts for reports and communications. Experience in website production and familiarity with the UN systems or international development organizations is preferred. The role requires a proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.

Languages:
An outstanding command of written English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of the Chinese language is considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to produce bilingual materials and communicate effectively in the region.

Additional Notes:
This position is a short-term or freelance assignment, and candidates may work remotely. The contract duration is flexible, but consultants engaged by UNU may not provide services for more than twenty-four months within a thirty-six month period. Remuneration will be based on experience and the scope of work, with no entitlement to paid annual leave or sick leave.
