Job Overview: The Project Inception Support Consultant position is designed to provide expert guidance and support during the initial phases of project development. The consultant will be responsible for facilitating the inception process, ensuring that all necessary assessments and analyses are conducted to lay a solid foundation for the project. This role requires a deep understanding of project management principles, as well as the ability to engage with various stakeholders to gather insights and feedback. The consultant will work closely with UNDP teams and partners to align project objectives with national priorities and sustainable development goals. The position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances throughout the project lifecycle.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Conducting comprehensive assessments to identify project needs and opportunities.
Engaging with stakeholders to gather input and ensure their perspectives are integrated into project planning.
Developing detailed project inception reports that outline objectives, methodologies, and expected outcomes.
Facilitating workshops and meetings to promote collaboration and consensus among stakeholders.
Providing technical expertise in project design and implementation strategies.
Monitoring and evaluating the inception phase to ensure alignment with UNDP standards and practices.
Preparing and submitting progress reports to the UNDP procurement unit and other relevant parties.
Ensuring compliance with UNDP procurement processes and guidelines throughout the project inception phase.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong set of qualifications to be considered for this role. This includes a proven track record in project management, particularly within the context of international development. Familiarity with UNDP's operational procedures and procurement processes is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong analytical skills, excellent communication abilities, and a capacity for strategic thinking. A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively in diverse teams are essential for success in this position.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Master's degree in a relevant field such as international development, public administration, project management, or a related discipline is required. Candidates with additional certifications in project management methodologies (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) will be given preference. Continuous professional development and training in relevant areas will also be considered an asset.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of relevant experience in project management, particularly in the context of international development projects. Experience working with UN agencies or similar organizations is highly advantageous. Candidates should demonstrate a history of successfully managing project inception phases and engaging with multiple stakeholders to achieve project goals.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within UNDP. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly Spanish or French, is considered a valuable asset and may enhance a candidate's competitiveness for the position.
Additional Notes: This position is classified as an Individual Contractor role, which may involve a flexible contract duration based on project needs. The consultant will be expected to work full-time during the project inception phase, with the possibility of extension depending on project developments. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and in line with UNDP's remuneration policies.
