Job Posting Organization: The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a prominent protection agency established to advocate for and promote durable solutions for populations affected by displacement. Since its inception, DRC has been dedicated to providing humanitarian assistance and protection to vulnerable communities. The organization has been operational in Ukraine since 2014, employing over 800 staff members and planning a significant scale-up in 2024 to enhance its emergency response capabilities across various sectors, including Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs, and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding. DRC's approach involves direct interventions, support to duty bearers, and partnerships with civil society organizations (CSOs), adapting its durable solutions portfolio to meet the evolving needs of the context in which it operates.
Job Overview: The primary purpose of the Driver role is to facilitate passenger transportation within Ukraine, specifically focusing on the planning and management of transport and logistics activities that support humanitarian assistance operations in the Donetsk region. The position requires the driver to ensure safe and efficient transport for operations teams and field offices, which may involve business trips across Ukraine. The driver is responsible for the overall management of the vehicle, ensuring it is maintained in good condition and used effectively to support the organization's mission. This role is crucial in ensuring that humanitarian operations run smoothly and that staff can reach their destinations safely and on time.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: conducting daily vehicle driving duties and performing inspections in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for Fleet Management; ensuring that each vehicle is equipped with a Vehicle Logbook, First Aid Kit, and Fire Extinguisher; maintaining cleanliness of the vehicles both inside and out; reporting any accidents, damages, or defects to the Fleet Officer and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Specialist, and completing the necessary Accident Report; ensuring that Vehicle Logbooks are accurately filled out; parking vehicles correctly during the day and at night; adhering to all traffic laws and regulations applicable in Ukraine and DRC; advising the SC Officer of any required service and maintenance for the assigned vehicle at least three days in advance; communicating effectively with Fleet Officers and Security Officers; monitoring fuel levels and organizing refueling; and submitting the completed Logbook to the Fleet Officer at the end of each day. The driver must be flexible and willing to work according to the operational needs of the organization.
Required Qualifications: To qualify for this position, candidates must possess a valid driver’s license in categories B and C, with category C being an advantage. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of three years of driving experience, ideally with international non-governmental organizations (INGOs). Other required qualifications include fluency in the Ukrainian language, experience with manual transmission vehicles, an accident-free driving record for at least three years in a similar role, knowledge of vehicle technical characteristics, basic computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), and familiarity with the local area.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is secondary education, although a university degree is desirable. This educational background will help ensure that the candidate has the necessary skills and knowledge to perform the duties associated with the role effectively.
Experience: Candidates are expected to have at least three years of relevant driving experience, particularly in roles that involve working with international non-governmental organizations. This experience should demonstrate the candidate's ability to navigate the complexities of driving in a humanitarian context, including understanding the operational needs of such environments.
Languages: Fluency in the Ukrainian language is mandatory for this position. Additionally, proficiency in English at level A1 is considered desirable, as it may facilitate communication with international staff and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The contract for this position is initially set for a probationary period of three months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The designated duty station for this role is Sloviansk, and the expected start date is December 202
