Job Overview: The consultancy role involves the development of a comprehensive inventory and good practice booklet specifically for the maintenance of HFC-based portable fire extinguishers. This assignment is crucial as it aims to enhance safety standards and ensure proper maintenance practices are followed for fire extinguishers, which are vital for emergency preparedness and response. The consultant will be expected to conduct thorough research, engage with stakeholders, and compile best practices into a user-friendly booklet that can be utilized by various organizations and individuals responsible for fire safety. The assignment is set to last for a period of six months, during which the consultant will need to deliver a well-structured and informative document that meets the needs of the target audience.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for several key duties including:
Conducting a comprehensive assessment of existing fire extinguisher maintenance practices and identifying gaps in knowledge and implementation.
Collaborating with fire safety experts and stakeholders to gather insights and best practices related to HFC-based portable fire extinguishers.
Developing a detailed inventory of fire extinguishers, including specifications, maintenance schedules, and compliance requirements.
Creating a good practice booklet that outlines maintenance procedures, safety protocols, and recommendations for effective use of fire extinguishers.
Ensuring that the booklet is accessible and understandable for a diverse audience, including non-experts.
Presenting findings and recommendations to UNDP and relevant stakeholders at the conclusion of the assignment.
Submitting all deliverables in a timely manner and adhering to the project timeline.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in fire safety, engineering, or a related field. They should have proven experience in developing safety manuals or guidelines, particularly in the context of fire safety equipment. Familiarity with international fire safety standards and regulations is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent research and analytical skills, as well as the ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently are also required.
Educational Background: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in fire safety engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental science, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in fire safety or risk management will be considered an asset. Candidates should also have a solid understanding of fire safety regulations and standards applicable to portable fire extinguishers.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in fire safety, risk management, or a related field. Experience in developing training materials or safety manuals is highly desirable. Candidates should have a track record of working with governmental or international organizations, particularly in the context of safety and compliance.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all documentation and communication will be conducted in this language. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly Spanish or French, would be considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with a broader range of stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This consultancy is offered as a six-month contract, and the consultant will be expected to work on a full-time basis during this period. The position is open to both national and international candidates, and compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
