Job Overview:
The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Associate position within UNICEF is designed to support the Security Section in Nigeria, which operates in a complex environment characterized by humanitarian, security, and socio-economic challenges. The role involves data management, information analysis, planning, reporting, mapping, and coordination of training and activities. The Security Associate will work under the direct supervision of the Security Officer and will play a crucial role in enhancing data-driven decision-making, improving security information flow, and strengthening security coordination across UNICEF offices nationwide. This position is vital for ensuring the safety and security of UNICEF staff and operations, contributing to the overall mission of protecting children's rights and well-being.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Security Associate will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Data and Analysis: Collecting, validating, and organizing data from multiple sources such as incident reports and media updates; assisting in drafting security reports; maintaining an updated database of security incidents and staff movements; producing analytical dashboards and summary reports for management; and supporting the preparation of security briefings and presentations.
  • Coordination and Knowledge Management: Assisting in coordinating security-related missions and training; maintaining a centralized knowledge repository for security documentation; tracking action points and following up with relevant sections; and supporting the organization of meetings and workshops.
  • Administrative and Operational Support: Providing administrative support for procurement, travel, and other operational needs; supporting the onboarding of new security focal points; and ensuring smooth communication within the section.
  • Communication and Engagement: Drafting and editing correspondence, training materials, and internal updates; and contributing to fostering a positive team culture.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Security Associate position should possess strong analytical and organizational skills, with a keen attention to detail. They should demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and possess excellent communication skills. Familiarity with data management tools and software is essential, as well as the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion. A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously are also important qualifications for this role.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as security management, international relations, social sciences, or a related discipline is required. Additional training or certifications in security management or emergency response would be advantageous and demonstrate a commitment to professional development in this area.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in security management, data analysis, or a related field. Experience working in humanitarian or development contexts, particularly in complex environments, is highly desirable. Familiarity with UN security protocols and procedures would be an asset, as well as experience in coordinating training and workshops.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Nigeria would be considered an asset, as it would facilitate communication and engagement with local stakeholders and communities.

This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, meaning that the selected candidate will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position may require flexibility in working hours and the ability to travel within Nigeria as needed.
