In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. In doing so, UN Member States took an historic step in accelerating the Organization’s goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system, which focused exclusively on gender equality and women’s empowerment: > Division for the Advancement of Women (DAW) > International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW) > Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women (OSAGI) > United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) The main roles of UN Women are: > To support inter-governmental bodies, such as the Commission on the Status of Women, in their formulation of policies, global standards and norms. > To help Member States to implement these standards, standing ready to provide suitable technical and financial support to those countries that request it, and to forge effective partnerships with civil society. > To lead and coordinate the UN system’s work on gender equality as well as promote accountability, including through regular monitoring of system-wide progress.

Job Overview:
The Programme Associate position at UN Women is integral to the successful implementation of the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF) initiatives. The successful candidate will report to the WPHF Program Manager and will work closely with the Programme Team to develop and implement effective programs that align with UN Women’s rules and regulations. The role involves providing comprehensive support in research, financial management, and program implementation. The Programme Associate will be responsible for ensuring that operational, administrative, and programmatic support is provided effectively, which includes collaborating with operations, program, and project personnel both in the Country Office (CO) and UN Women Headquarters (HQ) to resolve complex finance-related issues and facilitate the exchange of information. This position is crucial for empowering women and promoting inclusive peacebuilding and humanitarian action, as it directly contributes to the mission of UN Women.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Programme Associate will have a wide range of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to:
  • Providing administrative and logistical support for the formulation and management of programs, which includes preparing program work plans, budgets, and proposals, as well as offering technical guidance to CO/MCOs and executing agencies on routine delivery and reporting of program-supported activities and finances.
  • Supporting the financial management of the Programme Unit by creating projects in the Quantum system, preparing budget revisions, and monitoring budget preparation and finances of programs/projects.
  • Undertaking logistical, administrative, and financial arrangements for meetings, workshops, events, and missions, including making travel arrangements for the Programme Team.
  • Assisting in resource mobilization efforts by preparing cost-sharing agreements and organizing information from donors and the program team.
  • Facilitating knowledge building and sharing by synthesizing lessons learned and best practices related to program management and finance, and organizing training for office personnel and partners.
  • Performing other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a minimum of secondary education, with a Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration being desirable. Candidates must possess strong administrative skills and the ability to execute administrative processes and transactions effectively. A good knowledge of program management is essential, along with strong financial and budgeting skills. Proficiency in IT and the ability to create, edit, and present information in clear formats are also required. Candidates should demonstrate accountability, creative problem-solving abilities, effective communication skills, and inclusive collaboration.

Educational Background:
Completion of secondary education is required for this position. A Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration is desirable, as it provides a solid foundation for the administrative and program management tasks associated with the role.

Experience:
Candidates must have at least 6 years of progressively responsible experience in administration or program management/support. Experience in a computer environment using multiple office software packages is required, along with experience in supporting a team. Familiarity with a modern web-based ERP System, preferably Oracle Cloud, is desirable, as it will enhance the candidate's ability to manage financial and administrative tasks effectively.

Languages:
