Job Overview:
The Consultant - Multimedia and Platform Integration (Visual Design Lead) position is focused on creating a cohesive visual identity for educational materials related to remote sensing and geoinformation science. The consultant will work under the supervision of the Head of the UN-SPIDER Beijing Office, contributing to the development of a visual style guide and designing slide decks for various modules. The role requires a strong understanding of branding and user experience (UX) principles, as well as the ability to create visually engaging and accessible educational content. The consultant will also be responsible for producing infographics and multimedia assets that effectively communicate complex information in a clear and engaging manner. This position is remote and is expected to last from December 15, 2025, to December 31, 2025.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Review and style guide alignment: The consultant will review the approved course outline, draft slide decks, and branding/UX guidance from UNOOSA/UN-SPIDER and UNU Learning Center. They will develop a concise visual style guide that includes a color palette, typography hierarchy, iconography, and layouts that align with UN and UNU standards.
  • Slide deck design and layout: The consultant will redesign and format all course slide decks for four modules, ensuring visual consistency, readability, and accessibility. They will prepare master templates and finalized, content-populated decks.
  • Infographics and illustrations: The consultant will create or adapt infographics, icons, and visual elements to explain complex topics such as Chinese EO satellite constellations and analytical workflows.
  • Support for multimedia assets: The consultant will collaborate with the Multimedia & Platform Integration Designer to provide visual layouts and templates for video lectures and tutorials, ensuring brand consistency.
  • Collaboration and iteration: The consultant will participate in coordination calls with relevant stakeholders and revise materials based on feedback to ensure timely delivery.

Required Qualifications:
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in remote sensing, geoinformation science, geography, environmental science, disaster risk management, instructional design, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in similar fields combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. At least five years of proven experience in designing slide decks, infographics, and visual templates is required. Excellent skills in Adobe Creative Cloud or equivalent tools are necessary, along with the ability to deliver accessible, web-optimized assets. Experience working with international organizations, particularly within the UN system, is desirable, as is familiarity with geospatial or technical content.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in relevant fields such as remote sensing, geoinformation science, geography, environmental science, disaster risk management, or instructional design. A first-level university degree in similar fields, combined with two additional years of qualifying experience, may also be considered acceptable in lieu of the advanced degree.

Experience:
The position requires at least five years of proven experience in designing slide decks, infographics, and visual templates. Candidates should demonstrate a strong portfolio showcasing their design work and experience in creating educational materials that are visually engaging and accessible.

Languages:
Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required for this position, as English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another United Nations language is considered an advantage, enhancing the candidate's profile for this role.
