In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. In doing so, UN Member States took an historic step in accelerating the Organization’s goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system, which focused exclusively on gender equality and women’s empowerment:

> Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women (OSAGI)

The main roles of UN Women are:
> To support inter-governmental bodies, such as the Commission on the Status of Women, in their formulation of policies, global standards and norms.
> To help Member States to implement these standards, standing ready to provide suitable technical and financial support to those countries that request it, and to forge effective partnerships with civil society.
> To lead and coordinate the UN system’s work on gender equality as well as promote accountability, including through regular monitoring of system-wide progress.

Duties and Responsibilities: The Communications Analyst will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including: 1) Providing support in the planning and design of external communication and outreach strategies; 2) Analyzing communication strategies to ensure they incorporate a gender perspective; 3) Integrating communication and advocacy strategies into project proposals; 4) Monitoring and analyzing media coverage and providing insights to the regional and headquarters teams; 5) Coordinating the development and dissemination of advocacy materials, including drafting press releases and briefing materials; 6) Promoting corporate advocacy materials for flagship initiatives; 7) Coordinating media relations, including establishing relationships with relevant media outlets and organizing press events; 8) Building partnerships with donors and civil society organizations; 9) Managing the Country Office's web and social media presence; 10) Facilitating knowledge sharing by identifying best practices and organizing training sessions.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, public relations, journalism, or a relevant field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. The role requires a strong understanding of communication strategies, advocacy, and outreach, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders. Knowledge of gender and human rights issues is desirable, along with skills in communication, networking, and advocacy.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for the Communications Analyst position include a Master’s degree in communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field.
