Job Overview: The internship program at the IAEA is designed to provide students and recent graduates with practical work experience that aligns with their academic studies and interests. Interns will gain exposure to the operations of the IAEA and the broader United Nations system. The internship is particularly focused on supporting the Department of Nuclear Safety and Security, which is responsible for formulating and implementing safety standards and guidelines to protect people and the environment from radiation exposure. Interns will work closely with the Regulatory Infrastructure and Transport Safety Section, assisting in the management of an eLearning platform dedicated to the safe transport of radioactive materials. This role will involve ensuring that the platform's content is current, accurate, and accessible, as well as coordinating the translation of materials into multiple UN languages to enhance international accessibility.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities, including assisting in the analysis, planning, design, monitoring, and reporting of project activities related to the eLearning platform. They will support the team in managing content, which includes updating training modules, tracking course progress, and maintaining quality standards. Additionally, interns will coordinate with translators and subject matter experts to produce training materials in the official languages of the UN. They will also have the opportunity to develop skills in eLearning tools, instructional design principles, and stakeholder coordination, all within the context of transport safety.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree or be currently studying in fields such as Nuclear Engineering, Nuclear Sciences, Project Management, Business Administration, or related disciplines. A basic understanding of radiation and nuclear safety is essential. Excellent written and spoken English is mandatory, while fluency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is considered an asset. Candidates should also have an understanding of project life cycles, planning, scheduling, and monitoring, as well as familiarity with instructional design principles and learning management systems.
Educational Background: Applicants must be at least 20 years old and have completed a minimum of three years of full-time university studies towards a first degree. They may apply within one year of completing their bachelor's, master's, or doctorate degree. Previous participation in the IAEA's internship program is not permitted, ensuring that opportunities are available for new candidates.
Experience: While specific prior experience is not required, candidates should demonstrate a foundational understanding of project management and instructional design principles. Familiarity with e-learning platforms and tools will be beneficial, as will experience in content management and stakeholder engagement.
Languages: Proficiency in English is essential, and candidates are encouraged to have fluency in additional IAEA official languages such as Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, which would enhance their application and effectiveness in the role.
