Job Overview:
The Project Coordinator will be responsible for managing and coordinating all activities related to the establishment of the UNICEF Country Office in Khartoum, Sudan. This role involves providing essential support to UNICEF Operations, ensuring effective coordination and management of work. The selected individual will play a crucial role in enhancing cross-sectoral collaboration and building institutional capacity for planning, implementation, and monitoring of all related activities. The Project Coordinator will assist in project planning and execution, ensuring alignment with project objectives, timelines, budgets, and UNICEF operational standards. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with various teams to achieve impactful results.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Project Coordinator include:
  • Assisting in the planning and execution of projects related to re-establishing UNICEF’s presence in Khartoum, ensuring alignment with project objectives, timelines, budgets, and operational standards.
  • Supporting the development of work plans, timelines, and resource allocations for all project components.
  • Organizing, coordinating, and documenting all project-related meetings, including those with the UNICEF technical team and relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintaining comprehensive project records, including activities, delivery schedules, and administrative documentation.
  • Preparing periodic narrative and financial progress reports for internal use and senior management review.
  • Identifying potential delays, technical challenges, and risks; developing mitigation strategies and escalating critical issues to project leadership.
  • Liaising with Operations, Supply, Construction, ICT, Admin, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security teams to ensure integrated implementation of the re-establishment project.
  • Developing monitoring tools and tracking key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure project progress against deliverables.
  • Providing weekly and monthly project progress reports to management, summarizing achievements, challenges, and proposed solutions. 1
  • Supporting internal reviews and after-action reporting to document lessons learned and inform future initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Project Coordinator position include a strong background in project management, excellent organizational and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to UNICEF's core values of care, respect, integrity, trust, accountability, and sustainability. Additionally, proficiency in project planning and execution, risk management, and monitoring and evaluation is essential. Familiarity with UNICEF operational standards and procedures will be an advantage.

Educational Background:
Candidates for the Project Coordinator position should possess a relevant degree in project management, international development, social sciences, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred, but candidates with significant relevant experience may also be considered. Continuous professional development in project management methodologies and tools is highly desirable.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in project management, preferably within the humanitarian or development sector. Experience working in challenging environments, particularly in conflict-affected areas, is highly valued. Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record of successfully managing projects from inception to completion, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within UNICEF. Knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable, given the local context and the need for effective communication with local stakeholders. Additional language skills may be considered an asset, particularly if they relate to the communities served by UNICEF in Sudan.
