Job Overview: The position of Especialista Nacional en Salvaguardas Ambientales, Sociales y Género is crucial for the preparation phase of the project 'Iniciativa para la Eliminación Global del Mercurio en Metales No Ferrosos (GEMINI)'. The specialist will work under the supervision of the International Project Coordinator and will be responsible for developing mandatory project annexes related to gender, ensuring that the project aligns with UNDP's Social and Environmental Safeguards (SES) and specific GEF requirements. The role requires a deep understanding of gender issues and social aspects within the extractive industries, as well as the ability to integrate these considerations into project planning and execution. The consultant will also collaborate with national counterparts to ensure effective implementation of gender mainstreaming strategies throughout the project lifecycle.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Especialista Nacional en Salvaguardas Ambientales, Sociales y Género include:
Developing and drafting the mandatory gender-related annexes for the GEMINI project.
Ensuring compliance with UNDP's Social and Environmental Safeguards and GEF requirements.
Collaborating with the International Technical Specialist and National Project Coordinator to align project objectives with gender and social considerations.
Conducting assessments and analyses to identify gender-related impacts and opportunities within the project context.
Providing technical guidance and support to project teams and stakeholders on gender mainstreaming.
Facilitating training and capacity-building sessions on gender issues for project staff and partners.
Monitoring and evaluating the implementation of gender strategies and reporting on progress.
Engaging with local communities and stakeholders to gather input and feedback on gender-related aspects of the project.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for this position include:
Proven expertise in gender issues, particularly in the context of environmental and social safeguards.
Strong understanding of the extractive industries and their social implications.
Experience in developing gender-related policies, strategies, or frameworks.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Familiarity with UNDP's Social and Environmental Safeguards and GEF requirements is highly desirable.
Educational Background: Candidates should possess a relevant degree in social sciences, gender studies, environmental studies, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred, as it demonstrates a higher level of expertise and understanding of complex gender and environmental issues.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in gender analysis, social safeguards, or related fields. Experience working on projects funded by international organizations, particularly in the context of environmental and social governance, is highly advantageous. Candidates should also have a track record of successfully integrating gender considerations into project design and implementation.
Languages: Fluency in Spanish is mandatory, as the position requires communication with local stakeholders and project teams. Proficiency in English is also desirable, as it may be necessary for reporting and collaboration with international partners.
