Job Overview:
The Support Consultant for Disaster Management Information System (DMIS) will play a crucial role in enhancing the disaster management capabilities of UNDP in Pakistan. This position involves providing expert support in the implementation and management of the DMIS, which is essential for effective disaster response and recovery efforts. The consultant will be responsible for analyzing data related to disaster management, developing strategies for capacity building, and ensuring that the DMIS is utilized effectively by stakeholders. The role requires collaboration with various partners, including government agencies and local organizations, to strengthen disaster preparedness and response mechanisms. The consultant will also be expected to conduct training workshops and provide technical assistance to enhance the skills of local personnel in utilizing the DMIS.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support in the implementation and management of the Disaster Management Information System (DMIS).
  • Analyze disaster-related data to inform decision-making and improve response strategies.
  • Develop and deliver capacity-building workshops for stakeholders on the use of the DMIS.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, NGOs, and other partners to enhance disaster management practices.
  • Prepare reports and documentation related to the DMIS and its impact on disaster management efforts.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination among various stakeholders involved in disaster management.
  • Ensure that the DMIS is updated regularly with the latest data and information.
  • Provide recommendations for improving the functionality and effectiveness of the DMIS.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in disaster management, information systems, or related fields.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with disaster management frameworks and practices in Pakistan.
  • Proficiency in using data management software and tools relevant to disaster management.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in disaster management, information technology, social sciences, or a related field is required. A master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be considered an asset for this position.

Experience:
At least 5 years of relevant professional experience in disaster management, information systems, or a related field is required. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of disaster response and recovery, is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in Urdu or other local languages is considered an asset and would enhance communication with local stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is offered as an individual contractor role with a total of 90 working days over a span of 6 months. The consultant will be based in Karachi, Pakistan, and any necessary travel for capacity-building workshops will be facilitated by UNDP.
