Job Overview: The Driver position within the UNHCR Office is crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient transportation of authorized personnel and the maintenance of UNHCR vehicles. The incumbent will be directly supervised by the Administrative Officer or another designated staff member, and will be responsible for adhering to strict security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security protocols and operational guidelines. The role not only involves driving but also encompasses the upkeep and minor repairs of the assigned vehicles, ensuring they are roadworthy and compliant with established security standards. The Driver will interact regularly with UNHCR staff and external stakeholders, including government authorities and partners, necessitating effective communication and adherence to procedures. This position is integral to the operational efficiency of the UNHCR, contributing to the organization's mission of providing protection and assistance to those in need.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Driver's duties include: driving UNHCR vehicles for the transport of authorized passengers, delivering and collecting documents and items, meeting official personnel at airports and facilitating immigration and customs formalities, performing day-to-day maintenance of assigned vehicles (checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tires), ensuring vehicles are maintained to security standards, performing minor repairs, arranging for major repairs, keeping vehicles clean, logging official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, and oil changes, ensuring compliance with rules and regulations in case of accidents, following security guidance provided by supervisors, ensuring valid documentation for passengers and cargo, and supporting risk management efforts in the area of responsibility. The Driver may also be required to perform other related duties as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid driving license and have knowledge of driving rules and regulations. Essential functional skills include basic vehicle mechanical skills and adherence to driving regulations. The role requires a commitment to safety and compliance with UNHCR's operational guidelines. Candidates should demonstrate accountability, analytical thinking, client orientation, and effective communication skills. A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to continuous learning are also essential for success in this position.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of primary education or a high school diploma. Candidates with higher educational qualifications may be preferred, but the emphasis is on relevant experience and skills rather than formal education alone.
Experience: Candidates should have at least two years of relevant experience in a driving role, preferably within a formal organizational setting. Experience in maintaining vehicles and adhering to safety protocols is essential. Proven experience in professional driving, particularly in high-pressure environments, will be an advantage.
Languages: Knowledge of English is mandatory, and familiarity with the UN working language of the duty station is required. For General Service jobs, proficiency in English and/or the UN working language is necessary, with local language skills considered an asset. Overall language proficiency should be at least at the B2 level.
