Job Overview: The Senior Driver position is a critical role within UNHCR, primarily responsible for driving high-ranking officials, including the Head of Office. The incumbent will be supervised by the Administrative Officer or other designated staff members, ensuring that the driving duties are performed in accordance with established security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security protocols and operational guidelines. Beyond driving, the Senior Driver is tasked with the upkeep and maintenance of assigned UNHCR vehicles, which includes performing minor repairs and ensuring that vehicles are roadworthy and compliant with safety standards. The role also involves clerical tasks and may require providing interpretation services when necessary. The Senior Driver must maintain a high level of professionalism and integrity, reflecting UNHCR's core values while interacting with both internal staff and external stakeholders, including government authorities and partners.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Driver's duties include: driving UNHCR vehicles for the Head of Office and other high-ranking officials; transporting authorized passengers and delivering or collecting documents and items; facilitating immigration and customs formalities at airports or other locations; performing daily maintenance checks on assigned vehicles, including oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires; ensuring vehicles are clean and roadworthy; logging official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, and preparing reports on vehicle usage; ensuring valid documentation for passengers and cargo; assisting with basic interpretation services in the absence of an interpreter; supporting risk management and decision-making processes; and performing other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a valid driving license and have knowledge of driving rules and regulations. Essential qualifications include a basic understanding of vehicle mechanical skills and the ability to perform minor repairs. The role requires adherence to safety protocols and operational instructions, as well as effective communication skills for interaction with staff and external stakeholders. Candidates should demonstrate accountability, analytical thinking, client orientation, and teamwork capabilities.
Educational Background: The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of Primary Education or a High School Diploma. Candidates must also possess relevant driving certifications, including a Driving License and an Auto Mechanics Certificate, which are essential for the role.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 2 years of relevant experience in a driving role, preferably in a professional setting. Experience in operating vehicles under various conditions and familiarity with UNHCR's operational framework will be advantageous. The role may also require experience in performing vehicle maintenance and minor repairs, as well as knowledge of safety regulations and protocols.
Languages: For this position, knowledge of English is mandatory, along with the UN working language of the duty station if it is not English. For General Service jobs, proficiency in English and/or the UN working language is required, and knowledge of the local language is desirable.
