Job Overview: The STRIDES Uganda Program Manager will play a crucial role in providing program management support and coordination to the Project Director and team members. This position is responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the STRIDES activity in Uganda are executed on schedule and within budget. The Program Manager will oversee project planning, execution, monitoring, and tracking of contractual deliverables, while also streamlining communications and resolving project issues. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders to integrate work plans and budgets, which are essential for the project's success and sustainability. The Program Manager will also ensure compliance with both internal and external regulations, regularly evaluate project progress, and provide capacity-building support in project and operations management as necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Program Manager will be responsible for a wide range of duties including: providing management support for the implementation of STRIDES throughout its lifecycle; managing capacity strengthening of project staff; facilitating the development of a comprehensive project management plan; guiding and monitoring project staff; identifying partnerships and opportunities; developing best practices for contract execution; reviewing project schedules; developing and delivering project plans and documentation; resolving project issues; evaluating project progress; supporting staffing plans; and ensuring that all project team members receive appropriate orientation. Additionally, the Program Manager will establish communication schedules to update stakeholders, determine resource requirements, develop project completion schedules, and implement best practices for task performance.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree or its international equivalent in Health, Nutrition, International Development, Social Science, or a related field. A Master's degree in management studies, public health, or a related field is preferred, along with a Project Management Certification. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of project management principles and practices, as well as experience working on USG-funded contract awards.
Educational Background: A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field is required, with a preference for candidates holding a Master's degree in management studies, public health, or related fields. Project Management Certification is also preferred, indicating a formal recognition of the candidate's project management skills and knowledge.
Experience: The position typically requires a minimum of 8+ years of relevant experience in project management principles and practices, with at least 2+ years of line management experience. Candidates should have prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO), government agency, or private organization, and experience working on global health projects, particularly USG funded programs, is highly desirable. Experience in Global Health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security and other key health areas such as malaria and nutrition is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and for project documentation. Additional language skills may be considered an asset, particularly if they relate to the local context or the communities served by the project.
Additional Notes: This position may require travel of approximately 10% to 25%. The job is based in Kampala, Uganda, and is a full-time role.
