Job Overview: The EpiC Uganda Project Manager (PM) will play a crucial role in supporting the Uganda EpiC team by providing comprehensive program management support. This position involves overseeing project start-up, developing workplans and budgets in collaboration with technical and finance staff, and ensuring compliance with both internal and external regulations. The PM will be responsible for managing various aspects of program execution, ensuring that all program deliverables are met while adhering to budget, scope, and schedule requirements. The role also includes preparing and reviewing presentations and supporting other related program objectives and deliverables. The PM will work closely with the Associate Director of Program Management to develop project documentation, identify and resolve project issues, and monitor the progress of subgrantee deliverables, providing capacity strengthening support as needed. This position requires strong communication skills to clearly convey project updates to internal and external stakeholders and to build and maintain partnerships vital to the project's success.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the EpiC Uganda Project Manager include:
Providing management support on the implementation of the project from initiation to completion.
Collaborating with the Associate Director of Program Management to develop project workplans and budgets, as well as project documentation including donor reports and presentations.
Identifying and resolving project issues and implementing improvement plans to ensure the project stays on schedule and within budget.
Regularly evaluating the progress of the project and identifying partnerships and opportunities to help achieve project goals.
Monitoring the progress of subgrantee deliverables and providing necessary capacity strengthening support in project management.
Clearly communicating project updates to internal and external stakeholders.
Determining the resources required to complete key project activities and implementing best practices for performing these activities.
Reviewing the project schedule with senior management and revising it as required in line with donor expectations.
Building, developing, and growing partnerships vital to the success of the project. 1
Monitoring budgeted project expenditures in coordination with the finance team and contributing to financial reports and supporting documentation as outlined in donor agreements. 1
Ensuring that all project team members receive appropriate orientation to the organization and the project.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the EpiC Uganda Project Manager position include:
Comprehensive knowledge of project management concepts, practices, and procedures.
Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to influence, motivate, and collaborate with others.
Ability to adapt and resolve problems/issues to bring projects to completion.
Anticipation of the effects of process changes on people while optimizing task efficiency and simplicity.
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree or its International Equivalent in Health, Nutrition, International Development, Social Science, or a related field. A Master's degree in management studies, public health, or a related field is preferred. Additionally, Project Management (PM) Certification is considered an added advantage.
Experience: The position requires 8+ years of relevant experience with project management principles and practices, including at least 2 years of line management experience. Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO), government agency, or private organization is essential. Candidates should also have previous experience working on global health projects, including those supported by USG and PEPFAR, as well as experience in HIV and other key health areas such as malaria and nutrition.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not specified as mandatory.
