In July 2010, the United Nations General Assembly created UN Women, the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women. In doing so, UN Member States took an historic step in accelerating the Organization’s goals on gender equality and the empowerment of women. The creation of UN Women came about as part of the UN reform agenda, bringing together resources and mandates for greater impact. It merges and builds on the important work of four previously distinct parts of the UN system, which focused exclusively on gender equality and women’s empowerment: > Division for the Advancement of Women (DAW) > International Research and Training Institute for the Advancement of Women (INSTRAW) > Office of the Special Adviser on Gender Issues and Advancement of Women (OSAGI) > United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM) The main roles of UN Women are: > To support inter-governmental bodies, such as the Commission on the Status of Women, in their formulation of policies, global standards and norms. > To help Member States to implement these standards, standing ready to provide suitable technical and financial support to those countries that request it, and to forge effective partnerships with civil society. > To lead and coordinate the UN system’s work on gender equality as well as promote accountability, including through regular monitoring of system-wide progress.

Job Overview:
The Video Editor and Visual Designer position at UN Women Uganda is crucial for enhancing the visibility and communication of the organization's results in gender equality and women's empowerment. This role involves creating compelling multimedia content that documents achievements, lessons learned, and impact stories from ongoing programs. The outputs produced will be utilized across digital platforms, presentations, national dialogues, and partner engagements, thereby enhancing advocacy and storytelling efforts. The selected candidate will work under the supervision of the Communications team and will be responsible for reviewing and editing field and program footage into high-quality advocacy videos, integrating branding and motion graphics, and designing visual materials that effectively showcase program results and impact.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Video Editor and Visual Designer will have a range of responsibilities, including: reviewing and editing field and program footage into short advocacy videos (1-3 minutes each); integrating branding elements, motion graphics, subtitles, and transitions to enhance storytelling; designing fact sheets, infographics, and visual layouts that showcase program results and impact; ensuring all outputs comply with UN Women corporate branding guidelines and visual identity standards; delivering optimized content suitable for social media, partner events, and presentations; producing three short advocacy videos highlighting achievements across UN Women Uganda’s thematic areas; creating one highlight reel optimized for social media; designing five visually appealing fact sheets or infographics in both PDF and editable formats; providing editable design templates for continued use by the Communications team; and submitting all raw and editable project files upon completion of the tasks.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Video Editor and Visual Designer position should possess a strong background in video editing and visual design. They should have proficiency in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar tools, as well as graphic design software like Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, or Canva. A solid understanding of branding and visual identity standards is essential, along with the ability to create engaging and informative visual content. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team are also required.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in multimedia design, graphic design, communications, or a related field is required for this position. Additional certifications or training in video editing and graphic design will be considered an asset. Candidates should demonstrate a strong portfolio showcasing their previous work in video editing and visual design, highlighting their creativity and technical skills.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 3-5 years of professional experience in video editing and visual design. Experience working with non-profit organizations or in the field of gender equality and women's empowerment will be highly regarded. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a track record of producing high-quality multimedia content that effectively communicates key messages and engages target audiences.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all communications and outputs will be in English. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly local languages spoken in Uganda, will be considered an advantage, as it may enhance the ability to connect with diverse audiences and stakeholders.
