Job Overview:
The National Senior Waste Management Expert will be responsible for providing expert consultancy services in waste management practices within Georgia. This role involves assessing current waste management systems, developing strategies for improvement, and ensuring compliance with national and international waste management standards. The expert will work closely with local authorities, stakeholders, and community organizations to enhance waste management practices and promote sustainable solutions. The assignment is expected to last up to 90 consultancy days from December 2025 to August 2026, during which the expert will conduct field assessments, provide training, and develop comprehensive reports outlining recommendations for waste management improvements.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the National Senior Waste Management Expert include but are not limited to: conducting thorough assessments of existing waste management systems; identifying gaps and areas for improvement; developing and proposing innovative waste management strategies; collaborating with local government and community stakeholders to implement waste management initiatives; providing training and capacity-building sessions for local authorities and waste management personnel; preparing detailed reports and documentation of findings and recommendations; ensuring that all waste management practices comply with relevant national and international regulations; and actively participating in meetings and workshops to promote awareness and engagement in waste management issues.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in waste management, environmental science, or a related field. A proven track record of working on waste management projects, particularly in a consultancy capacity, is essential. The ideal candidate should have excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop practical solutions to complex waste management challenges. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels. Familiarity with the regulatory framework governing waste management in Georgia is highly desirable, as is experience in capacity building and training.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Master's degree in Environmental Science, Waste Management, Public Health, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in waste management practices, environmental policy, or sustainability will be considered an asset. Candidates with a PhD in a relevant discipline will be given preference, as will those with specialized training in waste management technologies and practices.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in waste management or environmental consultancy. Experience working with governmental and non-governmental organizations in Georgia or similar contexts is highly advantageous. The candidate should have a demonstrated ability to manage projects effectively, including planning, execution, and reporting. Previous experience in conducting assessments and developing waste management strategies is essential, as is familiarity with international best practices in waste management.

Languages:
Fluency in Georgian and English is mandatory. Proficiency in additional languages, particularly Russian, will be considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with a broader range of stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of the consultancy work.

Additional Notes:
This position is offered as a consultancy contract, with a duration of up to 90 days spread over the specified period. The role is expected to be part-time, with flexibility in scheduling to accommodate the needs of the project and the expert's availability. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and the successful candidate may be required to travel within Georgia as part of their duties.
