Job Overview: The Area Manager position at Humanity & Inclusion is a critical role that involves contributing to the implementation of the organization's mandate and 10-year strategy within the country of assignment. The Area Manager is responsible for ensuring the quality and impact of projects, utilizing a delegation system with appropriate control mechanisms. This role requires a strong commitment to HI's values and the ability to translate strategic objectives into operational goals. The Area Manager will also be involved in structuring the operational base, launching emergency interventions, and adapting to contextual changes. The position demands a proactive approach to management, strategy development, and operational implementation, ensuring compliance with HI's global frameworks and standards.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Area Manager will have several key missions, including:
Management: Embodying HI's values, serving as a role model, and guiding the team by translating strategy into operational objectives. Encouraging innovation and collaboration, organizing team work, managing performance, and solving problems. Coaching team members to develop skills and ensure compliance with the code of conduct.
Strategy and Steering: Contributing to the development and implementation of the programme operational strategy, including annual monitoring.
Standards and Expertise: Ensuring compliance with HI's global frameworks and institutional policies.
Operational Implementation: Managing and monitoring projects, analyzing risks and opportunities, and proposing mitigation measures. Developing HI's external influence and representation in the area of responsibility. Emergency Preparedness and Response: Preparing for and responding to emergencies as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess at least 3 years of professional experience in area, field, or project management within challenging humanitarian contexts, particularly in complex and conflict-affected regions. Proven managerial and security management experience is essential, along with experience in donor relations, external relations, fundraising, and strategic positioning. Candidates should have the ability to design and coordinate complex emergency interventions, possess strong management and communication skills, and demonstrate organizational skills, autonomy, and reactivity. Frequent travel and the ability to work in remote, insecure areas are also required.
