Job Overview: The Community Based Volunteers will report to the UN Women National Programme Specialist and work under the overall supervision of the Programme Manager for the Women’s Peace and Humanitarian Fund (WPHF). This position involves close collaboration with women-led and women human rights civil society organizations (CSOs) to contribute to strategic planning, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of WPHF-supported interventions. The role is crucial in ensuring that Sudanese women are not only beneficiaries but also key actors in shaping peace and recovery efforts. The volunteers will provide ongoing support to women-led and young women-led CSOs across 15 states, ensuring timely and quality implementation of various initiatives. They will also coach CSOs on financial management and reporting, facilitate training sessions, conduct field assessments, and support coalition-building and advocacy efforts.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Regular Accompaniment & Follow-up: Provide ongoing support to women-led and young women-led CSOs across 15 states, ensuring timely and quality implementation of their initiatives.
Technical Support: Coach CSOs on financial management, liquidation, and reporting; support timely submission of narrative and financial reports.
Monitoring & Learning: Conduct field spot checks and assess documentation; identify gaps and propose solutions; document best practices and lessons learned; facilitate peer exchanges.
Coordination & Advocacy: Support coalition-building and joint advocacy on WPSHA; prepare evidence-based communications and progress updates for UN Women. Key Performance Indicators include the percentage of CSOs submitting timely and complete reports, the number of trainings facilitated, and evidence of strengthened institutional systems within CSOs.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to gender equality and women's empowerment. They should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural environment. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, along with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances and work under pressure. A proactive approach to capacity building and advocacy is also required.
Educational Background: A degree in social sciences, international development, gender studies, or a related field is required. Additional training or certifications in project management, financial management, or monitoring and evaluation would be advantageous.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in community development, humanitarian assistance, or gender equality initiatives. Experience working with civil society organizations, particularly in conflict or post-conflict settings, is highly desirable. Familiarity with the challenges faced by women-led organizations in Sudan will be an asset.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, while proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in Sudan may be beneficial.
Additional Notes: This position is based in Sudan, which is currently facing significant humanitarian challenges due to ongoing conflict. Volunteers must be prepared to live and work in a high-stress environment, demonstrating flexibility, resilience, and adaptability. Living conditions may be basic, with limited amenities and recreational facilities. Connectivity for internet and mobile networks can be inconsistent. International staff are subject to UN security regulations, which may restrict movement. Despite these challenges, there are support networks for humanitarian and development staff in place.
