The Africa Gender Innovation Lab (Africa GIL) is a part of the World Bank's Africa Gender Impact Evaluation Unit, which aims to generate evidence on how to close gender gaps in various sectors across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Job Overview:
The E T Consultant position within the Africa Gender Innovation Lab involves conducting rigorous research and impact evaluations aimed at addressing gender inequality in Sub-Saharan Africa. The consultant will support the design and implementation of evaluations, analyze data, and contribute to the development of evidence-based policies that promote women's economic and social empowerment. The role requires collaboration with operational colleagues and stakeholders to ensure that the findings from research are effectively integrated into policy and practice. The consultant will also be responsible for producing reports and disseminating findings to influence decision-making processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Analyst will work under the supervision of the Africa Gender Impact Evaluation Unit Leader and will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: providing support to impact evaluations of ongoing interventions, designing baseline and follow-up surveys, conducting data analysis, and writing relevant reports. The Analyst will prepare large community, household, firm, and farm-level data sets for analysis, perform logic and consistency checks on data, and ensure that data collection follows specified protocols. Additional responsibilities include conducting descriptive and econometric analysis, drafting written summaries of analysis, assisting in survey sample design, and supporting country teams on gender assessment policy notes.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of a Master’s degree in international development or a related field, along with at least four years of relevant professional or academic experience in private sector, gender, and impact evaluations. A strong understanding of the challenges faced by female entrepreneurs and farmers in Africa is essential, as well as excellent analytical and quantitative skills, particularly in econometrics. Familiarity with STATA is required, along with strong project management skills and the ability to engage in policy dialogue with stakeholders.

Educational Background:
The position requires a Master’s degree in international development, economics, or a related field. Candidates with a PhD or equivalent experience in a relevant area will be preferred. The educational background should include coursework or training in gender studies, economics, and quantitative research methods, particularly those applicable to impact evaluations.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of four years of relevant experience, including fieldwork in Sub-Saharan Africa executing impact evaluations. Experience in survey design and implementation, as well as a demonstrated track record of working with economic data and analytical tools, is crucial. The ability to manage projects and collaborate with diverse teams is also important.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and a strong command of French is considered a plus. The ability to communicate effectively in both languages will enhance the candidate's ability to engage with stakeholders and disseminate research findings.

Additional Notes:
The position is a one-year appointment, renewable at the discretion of the World Bank Group, with a lifetime maximum ET appointment of three years. The role is based in Washington DC and may require frequent international travel. Remuneration will be set according to standard World Bank rates, commensurate with experience.
