The Asia and Pacific region is significant as it houses nearly 60% of the global population and has a diverse range of livestock production systems. The FAO RAP plays a crucial role in addressing the challenges posed by climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution, particularly for the millions of smallholders reliant on livestock for their livelihoods. Job Overview: The position focuses on attracting expertise for Consultant and PSA assignments within the Animal Health and Production Module at the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific. The role is critical in supporting the development and implementation of strategies and policies related to animal health, sustainable livestock production, and One Health initiatives. The incumbents will engage in various technical areas, including risk management, zoonotic disease prevention, and inter-sectoral collaboration. The work involves close coordination with other technical experts and stakeholders, ensuring that the FAO's strategic priorities are met while addressing the pressing challenges in the region's agrifood systems. The role may involve short-term contracts lasting from several weeks to 11 months, depending on the organization's needs and resource availability.
Duties and Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the position include supporting the Regional Animal Health and Production Module, implementing One Health training programs, and providing technical support for projects related to sustainable livestock development. The incumbent will review project documents, coordinate with regional and country-level stakeholders, and lead advocacy efforts for One Health initiatives. Additionally, the role involves developing national strategies, preparing updates on One Health initiatives, and ensuring effective communication among FAO offices. The incumbent will also be responsible for organizing workshops and capacity-building activities, contributing to the development of an FAO RAP Regional One Health Strategy, and performing other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in relevant fields such as sustainable livestock production, veterinary medicine, or public health. For level C positions, at least one year of relevant experience is required, while level B positions necessitate five years, and level A positions require ten years of experience. Proficiency in English is mandatory, and candidates should demonstrate competencies in results focus, teamwork, communication, and building effective relationships. Technical skills in project coordination, inter-sectoral collaboration, and resource mobilization are also essential.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree in fields related to sustainable livestock production, animal science, veterinary medicine, agriculture development, environmental sciences, public health, or similar specializations is required.
