Job Overview:
The Application Developer position is situated within the Division of Administration, specifically in the Information Technology Section's Digital Transformation Unit. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Information Systems Officer and will be responsible for a variety of functions related to web applications and digital solutions. This role requires a proactive approach to user requests, technical support, and the development and maintenance of web applications. The developer will collaborate closely with senior developers and product owners to gather requirements and implement features using modern technologies. The position emphasizes the importance of maintaining application quality and user satisfaction, as well as staying updated with emerging technologies and frameworks.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will act as the focal point for user requests related to web applications and digital solutions, providing essential technical support and troubleshooting for both frontend and backend components. Responsibilities include installing, configuring, and maintaining development environments and frameworks, as well as supporting the planning, specification, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of customized web applications. The developer will work closely with senior staff to create and maintain application software using full stack technologies such as React and Node.js, and will assist in preparing technical and user documentation. Additional duties involve conducting research on emerging frameworks, maintaining regular contact with users, and assisting with data collection, analysis, and visualization for reporting purposes. The role also includes updating and maintaining web content and performing other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with a first-level university degree being acceptable in lieu of two years of required experience. A degree in Computer Science or a related field is desirable. The position requires a minimum of five years of experience in application development, information systems, or software engineering, or three years if the candidate holds a first-level university degree. Hands-on experience in full stack web development, including both frontend and backend technologies, is essential, along with familiarity with version control systems and cloud-based environments. Experience with AI-assisted development tools is also desirable.

Educational Background:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required for this position. However, a first-level university degree may be accepted in lieu of two years of required experience. A degree in Computer Science or a similar field is preferred, as it provides a solid foundation for the technical skills needed in this role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of relevant experience in application development, information systems, or software engineering. If the candidate holds a first-level university degree, a minimum of three years of experience is acceptable. Additionally, candidates should have at least two years of hands-on experience in full stack web development, including exposure to both frontend and backend technologies, and experience in building, testing, and maintaining web applications using modern frameworks. Familiarity with version control systems and cloud-based environments is also necessary, with experience in AI-assisted development tools being a plus.

Languages:
English is the required working language for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French is also a working language of the United Nations Secretariat, but it is not a requirement for this job opening. Candidates should ensure they meet the language proficiency standards as outlined by the UN Language Framework.
