Job Overview:
The Safety Officer will play a crucial role in overseeing safety matters related to all DRC personnel, assets, and programs within the Dollo Ado area. This position is vital for ensuring the safe delivery of aid through the implementation of the Safety Risk Management System (SRMS). The Safety Officer will be responsible for planning, monitoring, and reporting on safety measures, as well as supervising guards and coordinating transportation in accordance with established procedures. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating safety risks, ensuring compliance with safety policies, and maintaining effective communication with staff and stakeholders regarding safety issues. The Safety Officer will also contribute to the development of contingency plans and conduct safety training for personnel and visitors, ensuring that all staff are well-prepared to respond to emergencies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Safety Officer's duties include conducting safety assessments, developing safety plans, and ensuring adherence to safety policies among staff. Responsibilities also encompass maintaining updated records of emergency data, leading efforts to minimize safety risks, and providing timely updates on security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security situations. The Safety Officer will conduct safety inspections, establish communication protocols, and ensure that all visitors are properly registered and escorted. Additionally, the role involves monitoring the capacity of guards and drivers, responding to safety incidents, and ensuring that all vehicles and safety equipment meet required standards. The Safety Officer will also assess training needs and organize safety briefings and drills, while performing any other duties as assigned by the Area Manager and Safety/Access Coordinator.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree and have at least 2 years of relevant working experience in safety or risk management. In cases where a full Bachelor's degree is not held, 5 years of relevant work experience may be considered. Previous experience with humanitarian organizations is advantageous. Strong reporting and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to coordinate staff and manage work schedules effectively. Proficiency in MS Office applications and the ability to build relationships with local authorities are also required. Candidates should demonstrate strong organizational skills, the ability to work under pressure, and a commitment to ethical practices.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree is required for this position, along with relevant certifications or training in safety management. Candidates with additional safety training will be given preference. The educational background should reflect a strong understanding of safety protocols and risk management principles.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in safety or risk management. However, candidates with 5 years of relevant experience may be considered if they do not hold a full Bachelor's degree. Experience working with humanitarian organizations in similar roles is highly desirable, as it demonstrates familiarity with the unique challenges and requirements of safety management in crisis situations.

Languages:
Fluency in the local language is mandatory, along with an advanced level of proficiency in English, both written and spoken. This language requirement is crucial for effective communication with staff, stakeholders, and local authorities.
