Job Overview:
The Area Manager position is crucial for the implementation of HI's mandate and 10-year strategy within the country of operation. Reporting to the Program Director, the Area Manager is responsible for ensuring the quality and impact of projects implemented in the region. This role involves a delegation system with appropriate control mechanisms to maintain high standards of project management. The Area Manager will contribute to the development and implementation of the program's operational strategy, ensuring that the projects align with HI's goals and objectives. The position requires a proactive approach to managing both opportunities and risks, as well as fostering external relationships to enhance HI's influence and representation in the area.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Area Manager will undertake several key missions, including:
  • Management: Overseeing the management of project teams and ensuring effective coordination among staff.
  • Strategy and Steering: Contributing to the development of the program's operational strategy and monitoring its implementation on an annual basis.
  • Standards and Expertise: Ensuring that projects meet HI's standards and that expertise is shared across teams.
  • Operational Implementation: Managing and monitoring projects, analyzing potential risks, and proposing mitigation measures. This includes developing HI's external influence through forums and strategic alliances, as well as representing the organization at events and in media.
  • Emergency Preparedness and Response: Preparing for and responding to emergencies in the area of responsibility, ensuring that resources are allocated appropriately based on the context.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must hold a degree in a relevant field such as humanitarian studies or social sciences. A minimum of three years of professional experience in area, field, or project management within challenging humanitarian contexts is required. Proven experience in managerial roles, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security management, donor relations, external relations, fundraising, and strategic positioning is essential. Candidates should also have experience in designing and coordinating complex emergency interventions, along with strong management and communication skills. Fluency in English, both oral and written, is mandatory, and candidates should demonstrate strong organizational skills, autonomy, and responsiveness.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a degree in a field related to humanitarian work, social sciences, or a similar discipline. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of humanitarian interventions and the needs of vulnerable populations.

Experience:
The position requires at least three years of professional experience in area, field, or project management, particularly in challenging humanitarian contexts. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing teams and projects effectively, as well as experience in security management and donor relations. This level of experience is necessary to navigate the complexities of humanitarian work and to ensure the successful implementation of projects.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, both in oral and written communication. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly languages relevant to the regions in which HI operates, but English remains the primary language of communication within the organization.

Additional Notes:
The position is offered as a 12-month international contract starting from November 202
  • The contract includes various benefits such as unemployment insurance for EU nationals, a pension scheme, medical coverage with a 50% employee contribution, and repatriation insurance paid by HI. The salary starts at 2869 € gross per month, depending on experience, with additional allowances for per diem, hardship, and child support if applicable. Paid leave is provided at a rate of 25 days per year, along with rest and recuperation (R&R) days. The position is unaccompanied, and HI will cover travel costs, including air tickets and visa expenses, as well as the transport of personal effects. Housing is provided individually by HI, and if the candidate is a resident in the country, a local package will be offered.
