Job Overview: The Migration, Environment, and Climate Change Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation and continuous development of IOM Tunisia's portfolio on migration, environment, and climate change. This position is part of the 'climate change and migration data' Danish programme, which aims to enhance evidence-based migration management and mitigate the risks of irregular migration and displacement due to environmental factors. The specialist will work under the general direction of the Chief of Mission and will be responsible for monitoring project progress, developing a national action plan on migration and climate change, and collaborating with government officials and stakeholders to integrate human mobility into national climate adaptation strategies. The role requires a proactive approach to data collection and analysis, ensuring that migration data is reliable and can inform policy and programming decisions.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: supporting the implementation and reporting of the Migration, Environment, and Climate Change project; developing tracking and reporting tools to monitor project progress; assisting in the formulation of a national action plan on migration and climate change; collaborating with government officials to integrate human mobility into the National Adaptation Plan; conducting capacity-building programs for relevant ministries and agencies; implementing the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly, and Regular Migration; contributing to better migration management based on evidence; organizing administrative activities related to project progress; providing logistical support for field missions and workshops; and performing other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Environmental Studies, Migration Studies, Climate Change, International Relations, Public Policy, or Social Sciences, along with a minimum of 4 years of professional experience. Alternatively, a High School diploma with at least six years of relevant professional experience is acceptable. Familiarity with climate change and environmental degradation programming is required, as well as experience in liaising with donors and government authorities. Experience in climate change adaptation and mitigation measures, capacity building, and familiarity with climate mobility policy is desired. Prior work experience in international organizations or NGOs is advantageous.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Environmental Studies, Migration Studies, Climate Change, International Relations, Public Policy, or Social Sciences from an accredited institution. Candidates with a High School diploma must have a minimum of six years of relevant professional experience to qualify for the position.
Experience: The position requires familiarity with climate change and environmental degradation programming and/or analysis. Candidates should have experience in liaising with donors and government authorities, as well as experience in climate change adaptation and mitigation measures. Experience in capacity building of local organizations and grant management is considered an asset. Familiarity with climate mobility policy and programming is also beneficial, and prior work experience in international organizations or NGOs is advantageous.
Languages: External applicants for all positions in the Professional category are required to be proficient in English and have at least a working knowledge of one additional UN Language, which can include Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish. For all applicants, fluency in Arabic, French, and English is required, both orally and in writing. This multilingual proficiency is essential for effective communication and collaboration within the diverse context of IOM's operations.
