Job Overview: The Information Management Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the coordination and implementation of Information Management (IM) aspects of IOM programs in Algeria. This position requires close collaboration with relevant program and project focal points, as well as the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) officer, to provide technical expertise in IM activities. These activities include data management, analysis, visualization, and mapping for all units within the mission. The officer will contribute to the development, implementation, and monitoring of the Information Management strategy for IOM Algeria, facilitating evidence-based decision-making and advocacy for the mission's response planning. The role also involves developing data reports, ensuring the consistent use of information management tools, and analyzing data to identify information gaps for effective program development.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Information Management Officer include:
Supporting the coordination and implementation of IM activities across IOM programs in Algeria.
Providing technical expertise in data management, analysis, visualization, and mapping.
Collaborating with program and project officers to support IM work related to various programming areas, including Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration (AVRR) and Protection Division (PxD).
Developing and monitoring the Information Management strategy for evidence-based decision-making.
Generating data reports and ensuring the inclusion of AVRR and PxD data in visual analytic applications.
Coordinating the preparation and dissemination of country-level information products.
Ensuring compliance with IOM Data Protection Policy and ITC Policies.
Reviewing information products and contributing to data integrity and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security procedures. 1
Participating in management coordination meetings and relevant forums.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in computer science, Media or Social Sciences, Information Management/Data Analysis, or a related field from an accredited institution, along with two years of relevant professional work experience. Alternatively, a University degree in the aforementioned fields with four years of relevant professional experience is acceptable. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Candidates should also have experience in database management, data verification, and the field of migrant assistance, particularly in AVRR and protection.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as computer science, Media or Social Sciences, Information Management/Data Analysis, or a related discipline from an accredited academic institution. Alternatively, a University degree in these fields with additional years of relevant experience is acceptable. The educational qualifications must be from institutions recognized by the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have experience in the development and management of databases and applications. Experience in information management work, including data verification, validation, classification, and transformation, is desirable. Additionally, candidates should have experience in the field of migrant assistance, particularly in AVRR and protection, as well as familiarity with database applications and statistical analysis tools.
Languages: Fluency in English and French is required for this position, both oral and written. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian, or Spanish) is considered an advantage. Proficiency in the required languages will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.
Additional Notes: The contract type for this position is Special Short Term Graded for an initial duration of 9 months, with the possibility of extension. The position is classified at the P-2 grade level and is intended for professional recruitment. Internationally recruited professional staff are required to be mobile, and any offer made is subject to funding confirmation. The selection process may be used to staff similar positions in various duty stations, and recommended candidates will remain eligible for appointment in a similar position for a period of 24 months. Candidates must be medically fit for appointment and meet any residency or visa requirements.
