Job Overview: The Area Manager position at NRC is a critical leadership role responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of NRC's core competencies within the designated area. The successful candidate will manage support functions, ensure compliance with NRC policies, and represent the organization at the area level. This role requires a passionate and seasoned leader with extensive experience in strategic planning, operational scaling, and integrated programming. The Area Manager will oversee senior project staff and Field Office Coordinators, ensuring that all projects are executed in alignment with NRC's strategic objectives and contractual commitments. The position also involves assessing needs, developing emergency response plans, and implementing cash-based interventions and market-based programs. The Area Manager will play a key role in capacity building for staff and ensuring the safety and security of all personnel in the area.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Area Manager will be responsible for a variety of duties, including but not limited to:
Line management of senior project staff and support functions, including Field Office Coordinators.
Participation as a member of the Country Management Group (CMG).
Ensuring compliance with NRC policies, guidance, and procedures.
Providing area-specific input on Core Competency strategies, the Country Strategy, and the Plan of Action.
Organizing grants opening and closure meetings at the area level.
Implementing projects in compliance with contractual commitments, ensuring quality, synergies, timeliness, and optimal resource use.
Assessing needs and developing emergency response plans, including cash-based interventions.
Representing NRC and networking at the area level.
Ensuring capacity building for all staff in the area. 1
Overseeing the overall security and safety of staff in the area.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 4 years of experience working as a Senior Manager in a humanitarian or recovery context, with at least 2 years in a leadership role. Proven skills in leadership and management of large, diverse teams, as well as strategic planning, are essential. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in security management and risk mitigation, along with strong budget management, HR, and logistics oversight experience. The ability to work under pressure and adapt to rapidly changing environments is crucial, as is a detail-oriented approach with a high level of accuracy and integrity. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are necessary for effective collaboration with diverse stakeholders, and a commitment to staff well-being and inclusion is expected.
Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in international relations, humanitarian and development studies, or a related field is required for this position. A Master's degree is preferred, particularly for candidates with experience in conflict-affected settings, with a preference for those who have worked in Palestine.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in a humanitarian or recovery context, with at least 2 years in a leadership role. Experience in conflict-affected settings, particularly in Palestine, is highly desirable. Proven skills in managing large teams and strategic planning are essential for success in this role.
Languages: Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Arabic is considered a plus and may enhance the candidate's ability to communicate effectively within the region.
Additional Notes: The duty station for this position is in the West Bank, with potential travel to areas of operation, estimated at approximately 30-40%. The salary and benefits are aligned with NRC's Grade 10 on their salary scale.
