Interns will play a crucial role in promoting diversity and inclusion within the UN's recruitment processes, ensuring that job postings are accessible and appealing to underrepresented groups, including persons with disabilities. The intern will also assist in organizing events and campaigns that raise awareness about inclusion and diversity, contributing to a more equitable workplace environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Inclusive Outreach and Engagement: The intern will support the identification of networks and organizations that represent persons with disabilities and other underrepresented groups. This includes drafting inclusive outreach messages to promote job openings and internships, as well as maintaining an updated outreach contact list and activity tracker.
Monitoring Gender and Diversity in Job Openings: The intern will review job postings to ensure they use gender-sensitive and disability-inclusive language. They will assist in monitoring application trends related to gender balance and representation of persons with disabilities, and draft internal summaries or presentations on these diversity trends.
Research and Knowledge Development: Conducting desk research on inclusive recruitment practices across the UN and similar organizations will be a key responsibility. The intern will contribute to the development of knowledge products, such as fact sheets and case studies, focused on outreach and diversity.
Support to Inclusive Workplace Readiness: The intern will assist in compiling recommendations for creating accessible work environments and tools, including assistive technologies and reasonable accommodations. They will also support activities that promote awareness of disability inclusion within the organization.
Event and Campaign Support: The intern will contribute to the planning and organization of outreach events, webinars, or awareness campaigns related to inclusion and diversity, ensuring that these initiatives effectively engage the target audience and promote the UN's commitment to diversity.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for the UN Internship Programme, applicants should have a field of study closely related to the internship they are applying for. Additionally, applicants must be students in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate school programme or being in the final year of a first university degree programme. This means that candidates should have a minimum of a bachelor's degree or equivalent, and those pursuing or having completed a master's or Ph.D. are also eligible.
