Job Overview: The internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme at IOM is designed to attract talented students and recent graduates who have a keen interest in migration-related issues and IOM's activities. Interns are expected to be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant work experience. The programme aims to provide interns with practical experience in the field of migration, allowing them to contribute to IOM's mission while gaining valuable skills and insights into the workings of an international organization. Interns will work under the supervision of experienced professionals and will be involved in various operational activities, particularly within the Korea Visa Application Center (KVAC).
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will assist the KVAC team with daily operational activities, which include receiving and sorting visa applications, managing passport and document logistics, and ensuring that visa application supporting documents are ordered according to relevant checklists. They will also conduct document completeness checks for various visa types, coordinate with the Visa Support Assistant, and communicate with visa applicants regarding missing documents or passport collection. Additionally, interns will attend project meetings and training sessions, assist in preparing reports, and undertake any other tasks assigned by the supervisor. This role provides a comprehensive introduction to the operational aspects of visa processing and migration management.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated within the last 12 months. They should have a specific interest in migration issues and relevant academic background, preferably in the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences. Furthermore, candidates must be between 20 and 36 years of age and possess a scholarship for internship placements or be sponsored by a governmental or non-governmental institution.
Educational Background: The ideal educational background for this internship includes studies in Humanities, Social Sciences, or related fields. Candidates should be either current students in their final year of undergraduate studies or recent graduates who have completed their degree within the last year. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of migration and the operational functions of IOM.
Experience: Interns are expected to have less than two years of relevant working experience. This position is particularly suited for students or recent graduates who are looking to gain practical experience in an international organization and who have a strong interest in migration and humanitarian issues. Previous internships or volunteer work in related fields will be considered an advantage but are not mandatory.
Languages: Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of German and/or Korean, as well as other official IOM languages such as French or Spanish, is considered an advantage. Proficiency in these languages will be evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and oral assessments to ensure effective communication within the team and with stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The internship is subject to funding confirmation and the candidate's medical fitness for appointment. Interns may receive a small monthly stipend to help offset costs, but those receiving financial remuneration or credits from their university or other sponsoring bodies will not be eligible for this stipend. IOM provides coverage against occupational accidents and illnesses for interns, but they are responsible for their own medical insurance for non-occupational accidents or illnesses. IOM has a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding misconduct and discrimination, and it does not charge any fees during the recruitment process.
