Job Overview: The Project Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the coordination, implementation, and monitoring of a project aimed at providing humanitarian assistance to forcibly returned Brazilians. This position requires a proactive approach to ensure that individuals returning to Brazil are treated with dignity and receive the necessary support to reintegrate into society. The Project Assistant will work under the supervision of the Project Coordinator and will be involved in various aspects of project management, including protection activities, documentation, reporting, and coordination with various stakeholders. The role demands a strong commitment to human rights and the ability to work effectively with vulnerable populations, ensuring that their needs are met and their rights are protected.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Support the implementation of protection activities by coordinating and monitoring the response to human rights issues faced by returnees.
Provide specialized assistance to promote and protect human rights, including technical support to strengthen protection networks.
Document and report on project progress, preparing success stories and supporting data collection for monitoring purposes.
Assist in the development of national protocols and case management tools for the protection of returned Brazilians.
Foster accountability to beneficiaries by ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are addressed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a High School Diploma with at least eight years of relevant professional experience, or a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Migration Studies, Human Rights, Law, or related fields from an accredited institution, along with a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience. The role requires a strong understanding of human rights issues, particularly as they relate to migrants and returnees, and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
Educational Background: A High School Diploma is acceptable with extensive experience, but a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is preferred. This educational background should provide a solid foundation in social sciences, human rights, or migration studies, equipping the candidate with the necessary theoretical and practical knowledge to address the challenges faced by forcibly returned individuals.
Experience: At least one year of experience working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, or victims of trafficking is required. Candidates should have experience liaising with Brazilian government agencies, international institutions, and NGOs. Demonstrated experience in protection activities, case management, and working with vulnerable populations is essential for this role.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory, along with basic knowledge of English or Spanish, both oral and written. Proficiency in IOM’s official languages will enhance communication and collaboration within the organization and with external partners.
Additional Notes: The position is full-time and may involve travel within Brazil to support project activities.
