The Resident Representative leads the office and is responsible for fostering strategic relationships with various stakeholders, including the Government of Tunisia, donor countries, multilateral institutions, civil society, and the private sector. UNDP plays a pivotal role in advancing Tunisia's progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals and has been instrumental in helping the government develop and revise its Nationally Determined Contributions for climate action.
Job Overview: The UN Volunteer will work under the direct supervision of the project manager to provide technical support for the implementation and monitoring of a project aimed at improving territorial governance for equitable access to water resources. This project focuses on promoting peace by enhancing local governance and reducing water-related conflicts, particularly in the regions of Gafsa and Kairouan. The volunteer will be involved in data collection, project reporting, field visits, and collaboration with local authorities and NGOs to ensure alignment of efforts. The role emphasizes participatory approaches to decision-making, particularly involving women and marginalized groups, and aims to foster community engagement in sustainable water use practices.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide technical support for project implementation and monitoring: Assist the project manager in data collection for project reporting; conduct regular field visits to monitor project activities and engage stakeholders; support the communication plan and enhance visibility of project results; collaborate with local and regional authorities, NGOs, and partners to ensure coordinated efforts; facilitate participatory approaches for inclusive decision-making; assist in project reporting processes; contribute to identifying and developing new initiatives and partnerships related to project themes.
Provide administrative, logistical, and budgetary support: Assist in the administrative and budgetary tracking of the project according to performance frameworks and UNDP procedures; monitor acquisitions in line with UNDP and donor guidelines, including procurement processes and contract management; support the project management unit in preparing and documenting meetings with technical committees and partners; organize logistics for workshops and missions related to the project; ensure proper archiving and documentation of project activities on UNDP platforms.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong technical skills in project management, data analysis, and community engagement. They should demonstrate adaptability, flexibility, and a commitment to learning and continuous improvement. The ability to communicate effectively, work collaboratively in teams, and respect diversity is essential. Candidates should also exhibit professionalism, integrity, and a strong ethical foundation in their work.
Experience: Candidates should have prior experience in project implementation, particularly in areas related to community development, environmental management, or governance. Experience working with marginalized communities, especially women and youth, is highly desirable. Familiarity with UNDP procedures and practices is an advantage, as is experience in data collection and analysis.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory, as the project operates primarily in French-speaking contexts. Proficiency in Arabic is also required, while knowledge of English is considered an asset.
Additional Notes: This is a volunteer position based in Kairouan, Tunisia, supported by the Swiss Embassy in Tunisia. The volunteer will receive a monthly living allowance of approximately 939.84 TND, a one-time entry allowance of 50 USD, and comprehensive health, life, and liability insurance. Access to the UNV E-Campus learning platform is also provided.
