Job Overview:
The Consultant for Hamro Sahas Community of Practice will play a crucial role in coordinating and facilitating a transformative program aimed at supporting feminist movement-building for social norm change in Nepal. This position involves working closely with the International GESI Coordination Consultant and reporting to the Programme Specialist, Gender Inclusive Governance. The consultant will be responsible for the overall coordination of the Community of Practice (CoP), engaging with program partners, and preparing session concepts and methodologies. The role requires a strong understanding of gender issues and the ability to foster collaboration among diverse organizations. The consultant will also facilitate sessions, develop knowledge products, and contribute to community building efforts, ensuring that the CoP effectively addresses discriminatory norms and promotes women's leadership and participation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's duties include overall coordination of the CoP, preparation of session concepts in collaboration with UN Women and partner organizations, and ensuring effective engagement with program partners. Responsibilities also involve coordinating session preparations, integrating participatory approaches, and fostering collaboration among contributors. The consultant will facilitate sessions as needed, prepare detailed methodologies for in-person workshops, and create a repository of resources and knowledge products. Additionally, the consultant will support the development of knowledge products related to the CoP and encourage community engagement through platforms like WhatsApp. The consultant will be expected to deliver specific outputs, including a finalized CoP concept note, successful online CoP sessions, and provincial workshops as part of the 16 Days of Activism.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree or equivalent in gender studies, social sciences, political science, economics, communications, journalism, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. The position requires fluency in English and Nepali, with a strong understanding of gender equality and social inclusion. Candidates should have experience in designing and implementing learning sessions, capacity building initiatives, and workshop facilitation. A good understanding of the Nepali women's movement and feminist organizations is essential, along with the ability to support partnership building across organizations. Experience working with UN Women and the UN system is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as gender studies, social sciences, political science, economics, communications, or journalism. A first-level university degree may be accepted if accompanied by two additional years of relevant experience. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender issues and the social dynamics at play in the context of the Hamro Sahas program.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 5 years of work experience in gender equality and social inclusion. This experience should include designing and implementing learning sessions and capacity building initiatives, as well as workshop design and facilitation. A strong understanding of the Nepali women's movement and feminist organizations is necessary, along with the ability to support partnership building across organizations. Experience in knowledge management, communications, and advocacy is also important, as is familiarity with social norm change and communications for development. Experience working with UN Women and the UN system is an asset that will enhance the candidate's suitability for this role.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Nepali is required for this position. These language skills are essential for effective communication with diverse stakeholders, including program partners, participants in the Community of Practice, and other relevant organizations. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, but English and Nepali are mandatory for fulfilling the responsibilities of the consultant role.

This consultancy is home-based, with travel to the Hamro Sahas program provinces (Madhesh, Karnali, Lumbini) anticipated in 202
  • The consultant will work closely with the Programme Manager to coordinate travel arrangements. The position is expected to involve a significant amount of collaboration with various stakeholders and requires a commitment to the values and competencies outlined by UN Women. The consultant will be evaluated based on academic qualifications, work experience, and specific competencies related to gender equality and social inclusion. The maximum score for this consultancy is 100, with candidates needing to score more than 70 to qualify for the position.
