Job Overview:
The consultant will be responsible for implementing a series of online gender mainstreaming training sessions aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of UN Women personnel and other UN agency staff. The training will be structured into two workstreams, each accommodating 18 participants, and will consist of nine hours of contact time spread over three days. The consultant will prepare the training agenda, materials, and presentations, ensuring they align with UN Women’s guidance and incorporate relevant case studies. Additionally, the consultant will facilitate an online reflection session for participants to discuss their learnings and how they plan to apply their new skills in their work. A summary report documenting the training process, participant engagement, and key discussion points will also be required. This role is crucial in advancing gender equality initiatives within the UN system and ensuring that gender considerations are integrated into programming and policies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and deliver online gender mainstreaming training sessions for UN Women and other UN agency personnel, ensuring the content is relevant and engaging.
  • Develop training materials, including agendas, presentations, and case studies, in consultation with the Regional Coordination Specialist.
  • Facilitate an online reflection session for participants to discuss their learnings and implementation strategies.
  • Compile a summary report that includes participant lists, training agendas, key discussion points, and reflections, along with training materials as an annex.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders from diverse UN entities to ensure effective training delivery and engagement.
  • Apply participatory pedagogies and methodologies to enhance learning outcomes.
  • Guide personnel in analyzing gender mainstreaming gaps in their programming and policies.
  • Ensure that all training activities align with UN Women’s values and competencies framework, promoting integrity, professionalism, and respect for diversity.

Required Qualifications:
  • A Master’s degree or equivalent in gender studies, development studies, politics, economics, or a related field is required.
  • A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.
  • At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in gender mainstreaming or related fields is required.
  • Proven experience in designing and delivering training for UN Women and/or other UN entities is essential.
  • In-depth knowledge of gender mainstreaming processes, frameworks, and challenges within the UN System is required.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills are necessary to effectively engage participants and stakeholders.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in fields such as gender studies, development studies, politics, economics, or any other related area. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender issues and the frameworks that govern gender equality initiatives.

Experience:
The position requires at least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in gender mainstreaming or related fields. Candidates should have a proven track record of designing and delivering training programs specifically for UN Women and/or other UN entities. In-depth knowledge of gender mainstreaming processes, frameworks, and challenges within the UN System is essential, as this role involves guiding personnel in analyzing and addressing gender gaps in programming and policies.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as all training and reporting will be conducted in this language. Knowledge of another UN language is considered desirable and may enhance a candidate's profile, particularly in a diverse and multilingual work environment.

Additional Notes:
This consultancy role is remote, allowing for flexibility in work arrangements. The expected deliverables include the online gender mainstreaming training, an online reflection session, and a summary report, with specific completion dates outlined for each. The consultant will report to the Regional Coordination Specialist and is expected to adhere to UN Women’s policies and procedures, including a commitment to diversity and inclusion. The position may involve rigorous reference and background checks to ensure compliance with UN Women’s standards of conduct.
