Job Overview: The position of One International and One National Consultant on building knowledge is integral to the UNDP's project aimed at enhancing security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">human security in Moldova through agri-food resilience in response to climate shocks. The consultants will be responsible for delivering climate services and early warning systems specifically tailored for the agricultural sector. This role requires a deep understanding of climate impacts on agriculture, as well as the ability to develop and implement strategies that can mitigate these impacts. The consultants will work closely with local stakeholders, including farmers, government agencies, and NGOs, to ensure that the knowledge and tools developed are relevant and effectively utilized. The consultants will also be expected to contribute to capacity-building efforts, ensuring that local communities are equipped to adapt to changing climate conditions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive assessments of the current climate services available to the agricultural sector in Moldova.
Develop tailored early warning systems that provide timely and actionable information to farmers and agricultural stakeholders.
Collaborate with local experts and stakeholders to identify knowledge gaps and develop training materials that address these gaps.
Facilitate workshops and training sessions to build local capacity in utilizing climate information for agricultural decision-making.
Prepare detailed reports and documentation of findings, methodologies, and recommendations for future actions.
Engage with local communities to ensure that the developed systems are user-friendly and meet their specific needs.
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of implemented strategies and make necessary adjustments based on feedback and observed outcomes.
Liaise with UNDP and other partners to ensure alignment with broader project goals and objectives.
Required Qualifications:
Proven expertise in climate science, agricultural systems, or related fields.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and translate it into practical applications.
Experience in developing and implementing climate services or early warning systems, particularly in the agricultural sector.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Familiarity with the socio-economic context of Moldova and the challenges faced by the agricultural sector is highly desirable.
Educational Background: A Master's degree or higher in Environmental Science, Agricultural Science, Climate Change, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in climate services or agricultural resilience will be considered an asset.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in climate services, agricultural development, or related fields is required. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of UNDP projects, is highly desirable. Proven track record of successful project implementation and stakeholder engagement is essential.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Proficiency in Romanian or Russian is highly desirable, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of the consultancy work.
Additional Notes: This position is offered as an individual contractor role under the procurement process of UNDP. The contract duration will be specified upon selection, and the consultants are expected to work full-time during the assignment period. The position is open to both international and national candidates, and compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
