Job Overview: The position of Consultant Expert International en Genre, Paix et Sécurité involves providing expert advice and support in the areas of gender, peace, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security. The consultant will be expected to analyze and assess the current gender dynamics within the context of peace and security in Mali, and to develop strategies and recommendations that promote gender equality and women's empowerment in peacebuilding processes. This role requires a deep understanding of the intersection between gender issues and security challenges, as well as the ability to engage with various stakeholders, including government entities, NGOs, and community organizations. The consultant will also be responsible for conducting training sessions and workshops aimed at enhancing the capacity of local actors to integrate gender perspectives into their work related to peace and security.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Consultant Expert will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: conducting thorough assessments of gender-related issues in the context of peace and security; developing and implementing gender-sensitive strategies and action plans; providing technical assistance and guidance to UNDP and local partners; facilitating workshops and training sessions on gender and security; preparing detailed reports and documentation on findings and recommendations; collaborating with other UN agencies and stakeholders to promote gender equality; and ensuring that gender considerations are integrated into all aspects of peacebuilding initiatives. The consultant will also be expected to monitor and evaluate the impact of implemented strategies and provide feedback for continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in gender studies, international relations, or a related field. A proven track record of working on gender issues in conflict or post-conflict settings is essential. The ideal candidate should have excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. Experience in capacity building and training is highly desirable, as well as familiarity with UN policies and frameworks related to gender and security. Strong project management skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are also required.
Educational Background: A Master's degree or higher in gender studies, international relations, social sciences, or a related field is required for this position. Additional certifications or training in gender and security issues will be considered an asset.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in gender, peace, and security, with a focus on international development or humanitarian contexts. Experience working with UN agencies or international organizations is highly preferred. The candidate should demonstrate a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities related to gender in peacebuilding processes.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the working language in Mali. Proficiency in English is also required, and knowledge of local languages would be considered an advantage.
Additional Notes: This position is offered as an individual contractor role, and the contract duration will be specified upon selection. The consultant will work on a full-time basis, and the position may involve travel within Mali. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, and the UNDP offers a range of benefits to its contractors.
