Job Overview:
The Intern for Gender Equality will play a crucial role in supporting UNDP's efforts to mainstream gender into national policies and programs in the Kyrgyz Republic. This position involves assisting with the implementation of the National Gender Strategy 2022–2030 and the National Action Plan on Gender Equality 2022–202
  • The intern will be responsible for collecting gender-related data, supporting capacity-building activities, and contributing to gender equality initiatives and awareness campaigns. The role requires collaboration with various teams within UNDP to ensure effective support for gender mainstreaming across different portfolios, including public effectiveness, sustainable growth, and climate change.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will provide technical support to the Gender Task Force and Gender Focal Point, assisting in the implementation of the Gender Seal accreditation process. Responsibilities include conducting research and data collection on gender-related topics, coordinating logistics for gender-related events, developing communication products, maintaining internal knowledge resources, and supporting the overall work of the Gender Task Force. The intern will also assist in visual content production, including reviewing communication materials for gender sensitivity and collecting documentation related to the Gender Seal process. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must be enrolled in a postgraduate degree program in Sociology, Gender Studies, Political Science, or a related field, or be in the final academic year of a first university degree program in the same fields. Recent graduates are also eligible if they start the internship within one year of graduation. Strong interest and knowledge in women's empowerment and gender equality issues are essential, along with familiarity with gender equality issues in Central Asia. Excellent digital literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Suite and online tools, is required, as well as proficiency in English, Russian, and Kyrgyz.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a background in Sociology, Gender Studies, Political Science, or a related field. This includes being enrolled in a master's program or being in the final year of a bachelor's degree program. Recent graduates who meet the educational criteria are also encouraged to apply, provided they can start the internship within one year of graduation.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to demonstrate a strong interest in and knowledge of women's empowerment and gender equality issues. Familiarity with gender equality issues specific to Central Asia is considered a strong asset. Experience in research related to gender equality is advantageous, as is proficiency in digital tools and applications.

Languages:
Proficiency in English, Russian, and Kyrgyz is mandatory for this position, both in written and verbal communication. This multilingual capability is essential for effective communication and collaboration within the UNDP and with external stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The internship will provide a monthly stipend, but UNDP will not sponsor visas or work permits. The intern must be based in Bishkek for the duration of the assignment and is expected to work full-time (100%), with a combination of remote work and office visits. The usual working hours are from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. UNDP emphasizes a zero-tolerance policy towards sexual exploitation and misconduct, and all selected candidates will undergo rigorous reference and background checks.
