Job Overview: The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Associate position at WFP is crucial for ensuring the safety and security of WFP staff, facilities, and operations in Gaza. The role involves implementing and assessing security measures, maintaining security equipment, and providing updates and recommendations to facilitate informed decision-making. The Security Associate will be responsible for reviewing security threats and risks, compiling reports on trends that could impact WFP operations, and coordinating with local authorities and communities to ensure safe program delivery. This position requires a proactive approach to security management, including conducting security assessments, advising on risk management, and delivering security training to staff. The Security Associate will work closely with the Security Officer and other stakeholders to maintain a secure environment for WFP operations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Security Associate include:
Reviewing security threats and risks in detail and compiling accurate reports on trends and situations that could adversely impact WFP operations.
Analyzing security-related information and producing a range of analyses and in-depth reports for relevant stakeholders.
Liaising and coordinating with local administration, security and law enforcement authorities, communities, and other actors to facilitate access for safe program delivery.
Planning and coordinating staff activities during field missions and performing security assessments within the area of responsibility.
Analyzing security assessment reports and presenting detailed recommendations for risk mitigation.
Advising the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director on security risk management matters and safety issues in compliance with the United Nations Security Management System (UNSMS).
Supporting the implementation of risk management mitigation measures, including Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS).
Maintaining and managing security equipment and making recommendations to strengthen technology capacity.
Monitoring access control procedures to ensure a safe and secure environment. 1
Developing recommendations for improving emergency and contingency planning documentation. 1
Delivering security training to staff and reviewing security training needs. 1
Supervising and providing on-the-job training to other staff to support their development and high performance.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for the Security Associate position include specialized knowledge of security operations and technical processes, typically gained through technical training and work experience. Candidates should possess a broad understanding of security logistics, security administration, risk assessment, and coordination with local authorities and law enforcement agencies. Training and experience in fire and related intervention/evacuation procedures are essential. Candidates must demonstrate the ability to manage emergency situations calmly and effectively, with attention to detail and constant vigilance to detect any breaches in security measures. Excellent communication skills are necessary for maintaining correspondence with internal staff and external authorities regarding security advisories and incidents.
Educational Background: Candidates must have completed secondary school education, with a BA degree in a related functional area being desirable. This educational background will provide the foundational knowledge necessary for understanding the complexities of security operations within the humanitarian context.
Experience: Candidates should have gained sound knowledge of security operations technical processes and have provided technical guidance and training to staff members within their area of expertise. Experience in supporting research and collation of data that informs security operations activities is also required. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of effectively managing security-related tasks and responsibilities in a challenging environment.
Languages: Fluency in both oral and written communication in English and Arabic is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in a diverse working environment.
Additional Notes: This position is a Service Contract (SC) with a duration of 12 months, subject to WFP needs, staff performance, and the availability of funds. The role is based in Gaza and is open only to Palestinian nationals residing in Gaza. The monthly remuneration will be based on the SC salary scale, and health coverage will be provided under CIGNA with co-cost sharing. Social insurance contributions will be made at a rate of 8.33% monthly added to the net base salary. Annual leave is granted at a rate of 2.5 days per month, and sick leave is available at 2 days per month. It is important to note that remuneration under the SC is not exempt from national or local taxation. Candidates must ensure they meet the eligibility requirements to apply, including being a national resident or having a valid visa/permit to live and work in Palestine.
