Job Overview:
The Short-term Civil Peace Service (CPS) Advisor will play a crucial role in supporting the learning processes of the CPS Cambodia program and organizing the CPS regional conference scheduled for February 202
  • This position requires close collaboration with the CPS coordinator, other CPS advisors, and partner organizations to ensure that the conference serves as a platform for professional exchange among various CPS country programs. The advisor will facilitate reflective processes with Cambodian partners to ensure their insights shape the conference agenda, focusing on themes such as transitional justice and peace education. The role demands a proactive approach to designing and implementing learning and exchange formats that resonate with the experiences of local stakeholders, thereby enhancing the overall impact of the conference and the CPS program.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The CPS Advisor will be responsible for several key tasks, including:
  • Preparing and organizing the CPS regional conference for Europe, the Middle East, and Asia in Cambodia.
  • Facilitating reflective processes with Cambodian partner organizations to ensure their perspectives inform the conference agenda.
  • Supporting the participatory design of the conference program, focusing on co-creating learning and exchange spaces based on partner input.
  • Developing the conference concept and learning formats, particularly regarding Dealing with the Past/Transitional Justice and peace education, in consultation with the CPS coordinator and advisors.
  • Overseeing logistical preparations for the conference in collaboration with the CPS administrative team in Cambodia and acting as a liaison between participants and the CPS Cambodia team.
  • Supporting the implementation of the conference and ensuring effective documentation of key insights from both the preparation phase and the conference itself.
  • Planning and organizing follow-up activities with CPS partner organizations post-conference.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a BA degree in sociology, political sciences, or related fields. They should have several years of experience as a development worker (EhfG) and demonstrate the ability to design and facilitate learning processes, particularly with local partner organizations. Familiarity or direct experience in thematic areas such as victim participation, mental health and psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support, truth and memory, and peace education is essential. Proven experience in event management, especially in international or intercultural contexts, is required. Candidates should also have theoretical and/or practical work experience in politically challenging environments, excellent communication skills, and fluency in spoken and written English. Strong intercultural sensitivity and the ability to build trust in multi-stakeholder settings are crucial, along with distinct capacities for self-organization and independent work.

Educational Background:
A BA degree in sociology, political sciences, or a related subject is required for this position. The educational background should provide a solid foundation for understanding the complexities of peacebuilding and transitional justice processes, as well as the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders in the field.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of one year of experience as a development worker under the Entwicklungshelfergesetz (EhfG). Additionally, at least two years of professional experience in relevant fields is expected. Experience in designing and facilitating learning processes, particularly in collaboration with local partners, is highly valued. Familiarity with the thematic focus areas of the CPS Cambodia program will be advantageous.

Languages:
Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the region or the stakeholders involved may be considered beneficial but is not explicitly required.
