The position allows for a flexible working arrangement, with the duty station being either in Addis Ababa or home-based, depending on the consultant's preference and the nature of the work.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
Conducting a thorough analysis of existing macroeconomic data and trends relevant to climate change and economic development.
Developing sector-specific scenarios that reflect potential impacts of climate change on various economic sectors.
Creating calibrated green economic models that can be used to simulate different policy scenarios and their potential outcomes.
Collaborating with UNDP staff and other stakeholders to ensure that the models and scenarios are aligned with national climate strategies and commitments.
Preparing detailed reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to UNDP and other relevant parties.
Engaging in discussions and consultations with government officials, civil society, and other stakeholders to gather insights and validate findings.
Ensuring that all deliverables are completed within the specified timeline and meet the quality standards set by UNDP.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in economics, environmental science, or a related field. A proven track record in developing economic models and conducting macroeconomic analysis is essential. Additionally, familiarity with climate change policies and frameworks, particularly in the context of developing countries, is highly desirable. The ideal candidate should demonstrate excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are necessary to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Master's degree in Economics, Environmental Science, or a related discipline is required. Candidates with a Ph.D. in a relevant field will be given preference. Additional certifications or training in climate change economics or related areas will be considered an asset.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in economic analysis, climate change modeling, or related fields. Experience working with international organizations, particularly in the context of climate change and sustainable development, is highly advantageous. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communications and deliverables will be in English. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly local languages spoken in Ethiopia, is considered a plus and may enhance the candidate's ability to engage with local stakeholders effectively.
Additional Notes: The contract duration for this position is set for 80 working days within a period of 4 months. The expected start date is immediately after the contract agreement is concluded. This position is classified as a senior specialist level (Level C) and offers a flexible working arrangement, allowing for both in-office and home-based work.
