Job Overview: The Regional Gender Statistics Consultant will play a crucial role in overseeing the regional implementation of UN Women’s Global Flagship Programme Initiative, "Making Every Woman and Girl Count" (Women Count). This position involves providing knowledge and capacity development services to UN Women offices and project/programme teams, enhancing their capabilities in gender statistics and monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The consultant will be responsible for managing the planning and execution of regional projects, ensuring adherence to quality standards, and facilitating partnerships to advocate for improved gender data. The role requires a strategic approach to engage with various stakeholders, including governments, civil society, and international organizations, to promote gender statistics and support the localization of SDGs. The consultant will also contribute to knowledge generation and capacity building in the region, ensuring that gender statistics are accessible and effectively utilized.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Manage and oversee the implementation of the Women Count initiative at the regional level, ensuring timely and comprehensive execution of activities.
Lead the planning of regional projects, ensuring adherence to quality standards established under the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics.
Identify and undertake necessary programmatic and administrative tasks, including budget preparation and performance reporting.
Support the preparation of periodic regional monitoring reports to assess progress towards SDG targets related to gender equality.
Provide knowledge and capacity development services to UN Women offices, producing templates, guidance notes, and methodologies for gender statistics and SDGs monitoring.
Organize and conduct training sessions for UN Women country and programme offices to build their capacity in gender statistics.
Develop and manage partnerships with governments, donors, and international agencies to implement regional initiatives.
Facilitate South-South cooperation to support national processes on gender statistics.
Contribute to monitoring and evaluation plans, ensuring effective progress tracking and achievement of Women Count objectives. 1
Lead knowledge management efforts, codifying best practices and lessons learned in gender statistics.
Required Qualifications:
Master’s degree or equivalent in gender statistics, public health, or a related field is required.
A first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree.
At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in gender statistics is required.
Experience in gender equality and women's empowerment is essential.
Experience working within the UN system is desirable, particularly in the Arab States region.
Strong knowledge of current policies and practices in gender statistics and UN technical support modalities is required.
Proven leadership skills and the ability to motivate a diverse team are essential.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in gender statistics, public health, or a related field. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of gender statistics and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Experience: The position requires at least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in the field of gender statistics. Candidates should have a solid background in gender equality and women's empowerment, with experience in the UN system being highly desirable. Familiarity with the Arab States context is also beneficial, as the consultant will be working closely with regional partners and stakeholders.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another UN official working language, such as Arabic or French, is desirable and will enhance the candidate's ability to engage with diverse stakeholders in the region.
Additional Notes: This consultancy is office-based, and the consultant will be expected to engage in official travel as necessary.
