Job Overview:
The Animal Health and Production Expert will play a crucial role in the effective delivery of the FAO Egypt country program, focusing on animal health and production as well as One Health elements. This position requires a strategic and technical approach to contribute to the design and implementation of projects that enhance livestock health and production. The expert will provide technical advice and support to various components of the FAO Egypt program portfolio, ensuring alignment with national strategies such as Vision 2030 and the National Food and Nutrition Strategy. The role involves collaboration with multiple ministries and stakeholders to promote sustainable livestock development and resource mobilization efforts.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Animal Health and Production Expert will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
  • Contributing to program design and strategic discussions related to animal health and production.
  • Providing technical advice and support for animal health and production components in FAO Egypt projects.
  • Keeping the FAO Egypt teams updated on policies and developments in livestock and animal health.
  • Developing partnerships with relevant ministries and stakeholders in the animal health sector.
  • Leading resource mobilization efforts in technical areas relevant to livestock.
  • Coordinating with HQ and RNE technical officers to promote sustainable livestock development.
  • Serving as the Coordinator for all animal health and livestock production projects, providing day-to-day guidance to project staff.
  • Preparing annual work plans and overseeing project implementation.
  • Establishing and participating in project steering committees. 1
  • Supporting the design and implementation of monitoring and evaluation frameworks. 1
  • Analyzing project data and contributing to policy briefs and recommendations. 1
  • Facilitating procurement plans and conducting field visits to monitor project progress. 1
  • Organizing coordination meetings and leading key project events. 1
  • Providing feedback and reports to the FAOR and ensuring effective communication with stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
  • An advanced degree in veterinary sciences, animal production, or related fields.
  • At least seven years of relevant experience in planning and implementing sustainable livestock and agricultural development projects.
  • Working knowledge (level C) of English and Arabic.
  • Must be a national of Egypt. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate competencies in results focus, teamwork, communication, building effective relationships, and knowledge sharing.

Educational Background:
The position requires an advanced degree in veterinary sciences, animal production, or related fields. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate possesses the necessary technical knowledge and skills to effectively contribute to the FAO Egypt country program.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of seven years of relevant experience in the field of livestock production and agricultural development. This experience should include planning and implementing projects and programs that focus on sustainable practices and addressing the challenges faced by the livestock sector.

Languages:
Proficiency in both English and Arabic is mandatory for this position, with a working knowledge level of C in both languages. This bilingual requirement is crucial for effective communication and collaboration with local stakeholders and international partners.
