Job Overview:
The International Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting UNFPA's efforts to enhance sexual and reproductive health (SRH) preparedness in emergency situations, particularly in the context of the MISP (Minimum Initial Service Package) Readiness Assessment. The consultant will be responsible for developing an approach to link MRA assessment tools and findings to climate-related health preparedness, ensuring that the assessment burden on country offices is minimized. The consultant will provide guidance and technical support to country teams in Sudan and Syria as they implement the MISP Readiness Assessment and develop action plans that consider climate impacts. Additionally, the consultant will engage with 13 country offices that completed MRAs between 2023-2025 to monitor progress and identify challenges in implementing assessment results. This position requires a strong commitment to advancing SRH in emergency contexts and the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to achieve the organization's goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's primary duties will include:
  • Developing a comprehensive approach to integrate climate-related health preparedness into the MRA assessments and action plans for 2024-202
  • Providing technical support and guidance to the country teams in Sudan and Syria for the implementation of the MISP Readiness Assessment.
  • Conducting meetings with the 13 country offices that completed MRAs to review progress, challenges, and agree on priority actions for 202
  • Monitoring the implementation of priority actions identified through regional MRA reviews and providing guidance on integrating SRH data into health management information systems.
  • Preparing presentations and reports summarizing findings from the MRA assessments and documenting key recommendations for future actions.
  • Engaging with stakeholders to advance regional policy-level commitments to integrating SRH into emergency preparedness planning.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in humanitarian affairs, social sciences, international relations, international development, public administration, or related disciplines. Additionally, candidates should have at least 10 years of professional experience in the humanitarian and development sectors, with a demonstrated commitment to sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Strong expertise in SRH, particularly regarding the MISP and the new MRA tool developed by IPPF, is essential. Candidates should also have experience in supporting national SRH working groups, developing communication and advocacy materials, and delivering similar assignments in the field of SRHR. Strong leadership, initiative, and the ability to work independently are critical for this role.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in humanitarian affairs, social sciences, international relations, international development, public administration, or related disciplines is required for this position. This educational background is essential to ensure that the consultant has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively contribute to the organization's goals in emergency preparedness and SRH.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in the humanitarian and development sectors. This experience should include a strong focus on sexual and reproductive health and rights, particularly in emergency contexts. Familiarity with the MISP and the MRA tool is crucial, as is experience in supporting national working groups and developing communication materials for policymakers. Previous experience in delivering similar assignments will be highly regarded, as will the ability to work remotely and independently while demonstrating strong leadership and initiative.

Languages:
Excellent command of English is required for this position. Proficiency in French or Arabic is considered an asset, as it will enhance communication with stakeholders in the Arab States region and facilitate the implementation of SRH initiatives in diverse contexts.
