Job Overview:
The Private Sector Development Specialist will play a crucial role in the management and implementation of the Surging Women’s Employment Flagship Initiative (SWEI), which aims to increase women's employment in the Arab States region by 5% by 203
  • This position focuses on enhancing decent employment opportunities for women by fostering gender-responsive workplaces and building transformative partnerships with the private sector. The Specialist will work closely with UN Women’s country offices and other stakeholders to align efforts with the SWEI’s employment goals, ensuring that partnerships evolve from transactional to value-creating collaborations. The role involves defining a partnership approach, supporting companies in increasing women's employment, and contributing to the overall strategic direction of the initiative.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Private Sector Development Specialist will lead the SWEI Private Sector Initiative Launch by negotiating with 5-10 companies to join the initiative. Responsibilities include content creation for the SWEI Private Sector Initiative Roadmap, developing a Side Session outline with key messages, and collaborating with communications specialists for promotional materials. The Specialist will also finalize the SWEI Private Sector Initiative Monitoring Framework and create an implementation work plan with initial companies. Additional duties include conducting assessments to identify opportunities for increasing women's employment, mapping strategic sectors, and finalizing roadmaps for the initiative. The incumbent will also perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the office and organization.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in economics, sustainable development, social sciences, or related fields. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted. The position requires at least 7 years of progressively responsible work experience in development, implementation, monitoring, and reporting on gender-related programs, particularly in the private sector. Experience in providing advisory support on women's economic empowerment and working across at least 4 countries in the Arab States region is essential. Knowledge of women's economic empowerment in the region is required, and experience in capacity building for government stakeholders and private sector partners is desirable.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant fields such as economics, sustainable development, or social sciences is required. A first-level university degree may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree if accompanied by additional qualifying experience.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience in development and implementation of gender-related programs, particularly those involving the private sector. Candidates should have experience in providing advisory support on women's economic empowerment and should have worked across multiple countries in the Arab States region. Familiarity with the UN system and experience in capacity building for various stakeholders is also desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in both English and Arabic is mandatory for this position, ensuring effective communication with diverse stakeholders in the region.

This is an office-based consultancy role that may require travel. The position is full-time and involves working closely with various stakeholders, including UN Women’s country offices and private sector partners.
