Job Overview:
The position of IC - Herpetologist national expert on preparation of Birds and Habitats Directive involves providing specialized expertise in herpetology, particularly in relation to the Birds and Habitats Directives. The expert will be responsible for preparing and advising on the implementation of these directives, ensuring that the necessary assessments and strategies are in place to protect and manage habitats and species effectively. This role requires a deep understanding of herpetological science, conservation strategies, and the legal frameworks surrounding biodiversity protection. The expert will collaborate with various stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and local communities, to promote best practices in habitat management and species conservation. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of herpetological species and their habitats in relation to the Birds and Habitats Directives.
  • Develop and implement strategies for the conservation and management of herpetological species.
  • Collaborate with local and national stakeholders to promote awareness and understanding of herpetological issues.
  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation to support the implementation of the directives.
  • Provide technical guidance and recommendations to government bodies and conservation organizations.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of conservation measures and strategies.
  • Facilitate training and capacity-building workshops for stakeholders involved in herpetological conservation.
  • Engage in public outreach and education initiatives to raise awareness about the importance of herpetological species and their habitats.

Required Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in herpetology, biology, ecology, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in herpetological research and conservation, particularly in relation to EU directives.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in data collection and analysis, including the use of statistical software.
  • Familiarity with policy frameworks and legal requirements related to biodiversity conservation.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced degree, preferably a Master’s or PhD, in herpetology, biology, ecology, environmental science, or a closely related discipline. This educational background is essential to ensure a thorough understanding of the complexities involved in herpetological conservation and the legal frameworks governing biodiversity.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in herpetological research and conservation. This experience should include work related to the implementation of the Birds and Habitats Directives, as well as demonstrated success in collaborating with governmental and non-governmental organizations on conservation projects.

Languages:

This position is classified as an individual contractor role, which may involve a flexible work schedule. The contract duration and specific terms will be discussed during the selection process.
