Job Overview: The internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is part of a global initiative commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), focusing on Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) and Forest Governance across six countries. The role involves supporting consulting services primarily directed at governmental and private sector partners in Ethiopia, Benin, Cameroon, Madagascar, Togo, and Côte d'Ivoire. The intern will contribute to improving conditions for forest landscape restoration, promoting income-generating activities through tree-based value chains, and developing financing approaches. Additionally, the intern will assist in conceptual advice to the BMZ regarding the AFR-100 initiative and various aspects of forest sector governance, policy-making, and trade.
Duties and Responsibilities: As an intern, you will be responsible for assisting with consulting and service tasks, including the preparation of reports, status updates, and presentations related to Forest Governance and FLR. You will support inquiries from the BMZ and assist in monitoring and evaluation (M&E) efforts, particularly in applying the digital 3-Level Monitoring System (3LDM), which integrates satellite, drone, and field data. Your role will also involve analyzing remote sensing data, preparing monitoring data in GIS, and visualizing this information on a web-based dashboard. Furthermore, you will help coordinate country-specific final surveys and evaluative studies, support project and knowledge management, assist in operational planning, and contribute to reporting. You will also aid in the preparation and execution of events with international partners.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess a degree in forestry, environmental sciences, natural resource management, geography, or a related field. Experience abroad in relevant projects or research stays is preferred. Knowledge of international development cooperation and expertise in international forest policy will be advantageous. Candidates should have initial experience in project management, strong Excel skills, and ideally, GIS knowledge. Teamwork, excellent communication, and networking skills are essential, along with very good proficiency in German, English, and French, as well as strong writing skills.
Educational Background: A (higher education) degree in forestry, environmental sciences, natural resource management, geography, or a similar field is required. The internship is only available to individuals who are currently enrolled in a study program that requires an internship or who have graduated no more than six months prior to the start of the internship.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have some initial experience in project management, preferably in contexts related to international development or environmental projects. Experience in relevant research or practical applications in the field of forestry or environmental sciences is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in German, English, and French is mandatory, with strong writing skills in these languages being essential. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.
