Duties and Responsibilities: The Administrative Officer will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including:
Coordinating human resource activities such as recruitment, placement, promotion, and performance appraisal, ensuring adherence to UN policies.
Leading the preparation and implementation of the work programme and budget, monitoring financial resources, and conducting regular reviews to assess progress.
Developing and implementing procedures for financial management and accounting, ensuring compliance with UN policies.
Providing administrative support to the Commissioners and the Secretariat, including organizing field missions and high-level meetings.
Maintaining organized filing systems and correspondence management to enhance administrative efficiency.
Identifying office technology needs and coordinating maintenance and enhancements as necessary.
Performing other related duties as required to support the Commission's objectives.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong understanding of administrative, budgetary, financial, and human resources policies and procedures. They should demonstrate the ability to apply UN administrative rules in various work situations and possess analytical skills for independent research and decision-making. The ideal candidate will show professionalism, efficiency, and a commitment to gender equality in all areas of work. Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business or public administration, finance, accounting, law, or a related area is required. This educational background is essential for understanding the complexities of administrative and financial management within the UN framework.
Experience: A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in administration, finance, accounting, or human resources management is required. Candidates with at least two years of experience working within the UN common system are preferred. Experience with UMOJA, the UN's enterprise resource planning system, and rapid deployment support for personnel on extensive mission travel is also desirable, highlighting the need for candidates who can adapt to dynamic work environments.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another UN language, such as French, is considered an advantage, enhancing communication capabilities within the diverse UN workforce.
