Job Overview:
The Investment Analyst position within the Financial Institution Group (FIG) at IFC is crucial for supporting the growth of business operations across the East Asia region, with a particular focus on Indonesia. The role involves engaging in both new business development and portfolio management, contributing to the organization's objectives of financial inclusion, servicing the real economy, and mobilizing third-party resources. The analyst will be responsible for conducting in-depth country and sector research, analyzing financial statements, and preparing client-facing materials. This position requires a strong analytical mindset to assess operational and financial performance, as well as credit and integrity risks associated with potential clients and projects. The analyst will also prepare investment notes and memos for management approval, coordinate with various internal stakeholders, and participate in due diligence exercises. A thorough understanding of IFC's internal processes and workflows is essential, as is the ability to build financial models and projections to support investment decisions and portfolio management activities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Investment Analyst will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Assisting in business development efforts through comprehensive country and sector-level research, identifying key stakeholders at client companies and other relevant counterparts.
  • Conducting preliminary business and financial analyses, including the study of financial statements and related information to support business development initiatives.
  • Preparing client-facing materials such as pitchbooks to effectively communicate investment opportunities.
  • Analyzing operational and financial performance, as well as assessing credit and integrity risks of potential clients and projects.
  • Preparing investment notes and memos for internal management approval, focusing on business/analysis" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">financial analysis, Environmental and Social (E&S) impact, and developmental impact aligned with IFC's country strategy.
  • Coordinating with internal stakeholders, including legal, E&S, economists, and sector specialists, to enhance the development impact and financial sustainability of projects.
  • Developing a thorough understanding of IFC's internal processes, workflows, and related IT systems.
  • Participating in due diligence exercises, collecting financial and operational information from clients, conducting primary research, and obtaining pricing information/comparables.
  • Building financial models and projections to support investment decisions. 1
  • Supporting portfolio management by performing credit and risk assessments, financial projections, covenant compliance reviews, and monitoring changes to flag risks in the portfolio. 1
  • Monitoring macroeconomic indicators relevant to assigned portfolios and conducting rating reviews of loan loss reserves on a quarterly basis.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Investment Analyst position must possess a Master's degree in a related field, such as business, finance, or economics, along with at least 2 years of relevant experience. This experience may include a proven track record in business consulting, investment banking, or operational experience in a specific sector or industry specialty. The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong analytical skills, financial analysis capabilities, equity valuation expertise, and proficiency in financial modeling to effectively analyze and draw conclusions from company financial information and industry indicators. Additionally, the candidate should have the capacity to identify barriers to market creation opportunities and synthesize information on local regulatory and economic contexts, industry structures, and client constraints.

Educational Background:
A Master's degree in a relevant field such as business, finance, or economics is required for this position. Candidates with educational backgrounds that include specialized expertise in specific sectors or industries will also be considered favorably. The educational qualifications should equip the candidate with the necessary analytical and financial skills to perform the duties of the role effectively.

Experience:
The position requires at least 2 years of relevant experience in fields such as business consulting, investment banking, or operational roles within specific sectors. Candidates should have a proven track record of success in their previous roles, demonstrating their ability to analyze financial data, conduct market research, and engage with clients and stakeholders effectively.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both verbal and written, is mandatory for this position. Candidates should possess excellent communication skills to effectively convey ideas and information to internal and external stakeholders. While English is the primary language required, proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly if relevant to the markets in which IFC operates.
