Job Overview: The Podcast Production Consultant will be responsible for leading the production of a broadcast-quality podcast season consisting of seven episodes, each approximately 20 to 30 minutes long. The episodes will highlight unique narratives from the IPBES community and will be introduced by two presenters, one of whom must be an IPBES staff member. The consultant will develop and produce the episodes, including content creation, scripting, and structuring. The role requires the consultant to create a comprehensive plan for pre-production, production, and post-production, ensuring that all episodes are delivered on time and meet broadcast quality standards. The consultant will also be tasked with promoting the podcast through various social media channels and ensuring that the narratives reach new decision-makers.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will lead the production of seven podcast episodes, each around 30 minutes long, for the IPBES Nature Insight Podcast. Responsibilities include developing content, scripts, and structure for each episode, as well as creating a detailed production plan that encompasses logistics and timelines. The consultant will conduct interviews with members of the IPBES or broader biodiversity community, ensuring that all interviews are of broadcast quality. They will manage logistics with professional affiliates and utilize online platforms for remote recording, except for the final episode, which will be recorded on-site at the twelfth session of the IPBES Plenary. The consultant will edit and mix the raw material to produce final products of broadcast quality and design a marketing strategy for post-production placement. Additionally, they will produce audiograms for online promotion and collaborate with the IPBES communications team to promote the podcast on social media. Monitoring and analyzing the reach and impact of each episode will also be part of the consultant's responsibilities, along with providing recommendations for future seasons.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in journalism, communication marketing, or a related field. A first-level university degree combined with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. Extensive knowledge and experience in communications, broadcast media, and marketing are essential. Candidates should have a minimum of 7 years of experience in international media, journalism, and communications, with at least 5 years of proven experience in leading the production and marketing of broadcast-quality podcasts. A proven track record in producing podcast analytics reports to track reach and impact is also required, along with extensive experience working with international organizations and media. Knowledge of biodiversity topics and the work of IPBES is desirable.
Educational Background: A Master's degree or equivalent in journalism, communication marketing, or a related field is required. Alternatively, a first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience will be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 7 years of experience in international media, journalism, and communications. Within this timeframe, at least 5 years must be dedicated to leading the production and marketing of broadcast-quality podcasts. Experience in producing podcast analytics reports is also necessary to track the reach and impact of the episodes.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of another UN official language is considered desirable, which may enhance the candidate's qualifications and ability to communicate effectively in a multilingual environment.
Additional Notes: The consultancy is expected to cover 6 months of work distributed over an 8-month period. The position is home-based, allowing for flexibility in work arrangements.
