Job Overview:
The position of International Junior Climate Policy Consultant is designed to support UNDP Viet Nam in its efforts to strengthen nature-based solutions (NbS) aimed at restoring ecosystems and enhancing blue carbon stocks. The consultant will be involved in projects that focus on the conservation of coastal ecosystems such as mangroves, coral reefs, seagrasses, and tidal marshes, which are crucial for biodiversity and provide essential ecosystem services. The role will require the consultant to provide technical support for ongoing projects, develop new initiatives, and engage in advocacy and communication efforts related to climate change adaptation and resilience building. The consultant will also contribute to the mainstreaming of NbS in Viet Nam’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and will work on policy briefs and reports that explore the potential of blue carbon markets in the country. This position is expected to last from June 2025 to April 2026, aligning with the ongoing projects in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the International Junior Climate Policy Consultant include:
  • Assisting in the formulation, scoping, and validation of potential NbS projects, including GEF-8 and IKI Blue Carbon initiatives aimed at sustainable coastal resilience and blue carbon restoration (20% of the role).
  • Supporting the implementation of UNDP’s climate change portfolio and advocating for the Climate Finance Network and NDC 3.0, with a particular focus on youth initiatives (60% of the role).
  • Contributing to communication, knowledge-building, and innovative learning for ongoing NbS projects, especially regarding private sector engagement in blue carbon development (20% of the role).
  • Engaging with stakeholders to promote the importance of NbS and climate finance in achieving sustainable development goals.
  • Preparing reports and documentation related to project progress and outcomes.
  • Participating in meetings and workshops to share insights and gather feedback on project initiatives.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the position include a strong understanding of climate change policies, nature-based solutions, and sustainable development practices. The candidate should possess excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. Familiarity with project management and experience in advocacy or policy development related to climate finance and environmental sustainability are highly desirable. The consultant should also demonstrate a commitment to the principles of gender equality and human rights in their work.

Educational Background:
Candidates for the International Junior Climate Policy Consultant position should have a relevant educational background, typically a degree in environmental science, climate policy, sustainable development, or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in climate change adaptation, ecosystem management, or related disciplines will be considered an asset. The educational qualifications should reflect a solid foundation in both theoretical knowledge and practical applications in the field of climate policy and environmental management.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have some level of experience in climate policy, environmental management, or related fields. Languages:
